Project Update: Muncika Community Facility & Solar-Powered Borehole

We are thrilled to announce that the ceiling of the health facility in Muncika Community, Fika LGA, Yobe State, has been successfully completed. This is a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure in the community.

Additionally, the stand for the overhead tank of the solar-powered borehole has been constructed, providing a reliable and sustainable source of clean water for both the facility and the people it serves.

These achievements reflect Rural Health Mission Nigeria’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery, enhancing community well-being, and ensuring essential services reach underserved areas.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this possible and remain committed to our mission of healthcare for all.

Fika, Yobe State – In a significant step toward improving healthcare access in rural communities, work has officially commenced at the Munchika Health Facility in Fika Local Government Area (LGA), Yobe State. The initiative supported by World Connect, being implemented by Rural Health Mission Nigeria, aims to provide residents with quality healthcare services, reduce the burden of traveling to distant health centers, and strengthen the local health system.

Community members have expressed optimism about the project, highlighting its anticipated benefits, including timely antenatal and postnatal care, health education, and emergency response services. “Having a health facility in our community means our children and elderly can receive care without traveling long distances,” said a local resident.

The project is also expected to create local employment opportunities during both construction and operations, while fostering partnerships with other health organizations to ensure sustainable service delivery.

Under the shade of the old primary healthcare center in Munchika community, Fika LGA of Yobe State, village leaders, community members, and our team sat together with a shared purpose. This facility the community’s only health center has long served mothers and children without clean water, a safe birthing space, or basic equipment.

Through our Lifesaving Intervention Project, and with the support of World Connect, we are working hand in hand with the community to change that story. By providing safe drinking water for the health facility and the wider community, and renovating the maternity room with proper sanitation, hygiene facilities, and essential birthing equipment, we are restoring dignity and safety to childbirth.

This is more than an upgrade, it is a commitment to safe motherhood, healthy newborns, and a stronger future for Munchika.

How RHEMN Empowerment Changed Zainab’s Life in Nangere LGA

For Zainab Ibrahim, a widow and mother of five living in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, life became extremely difficult after severe flooding destroyed farmlands, food supplies, and household assets in her community. As a result, providing daily meals for her family became a constant struggle. With limited income opportunities following the floods, her household depended largely on irregular support from relatives.

In 2025, following the flood disaster, Zainab was selected as a beneficiary of a Goat Empowerment Program implemented by Rural Health Mission Nigeria under the Emergency Response Project, aimed at supporting flood-affected and vulnerable women and restoring sustainable livelihoods. She received two healthy goats, along with basic training on animal care, feeding, and disease prevention.

At first, Zainab was unsure if she could manage the responsibility. However, with regular follow-up and guidance from Rural Health Mission Nigeria, she quickly gained confidence. Within a few months, the goats gave birth to two kids, increasing her small livestock assets. She was able to sell one goat to purchase food items, pay her children’s school expenses, and access healthcare when needed.
