IF IT WAS EASY, EVERYONE WOULD DO IT

In the quiet of dawn, dreams take flight,
But the path is tangled, obscured from sight.
Mountains loom high, and rivers run deep,
The journey demands more than just a leap.

If it was easy, everyone would soar,
But the heart knows the struggle, the sweat, and the roar.
It's the grit in the grind, the fire in the soul,
That shapes our resolve and makes us whole.

Challenges beckon with whispers so sweet,
Yet only the brave dare to rise to their feet.
For in every success, countless failures reside,
But each stumble teaches, and each fall is a guide.

So embrace the hardship, let it mold who you are,
For the brightest of diamonds are born from the scar.
In the dance of persistence, where shadows entwine,
Remember, the journey is yours—make it divine.

If it was easy, the world would be still,
But it's the trials that sharpen the strength of our will.
So chase after dreams, let your spirit ignite,
For the hardest of battles are worth every fight.

I WISH HEAVEN HAD VISITING HOURS

I wish heaven had visiting hours,
To walk those sacred halls,
Where echoes of laughter linger,
And love never truly falls.

I’d hold you close in soft sunlight,
In memories wrapped so tight,
With stories spun like golden threads,
In the warmth of day and night.

Each moment shared, a precious gem,
In the tapestry of time,
I’d tell you all the news today,
And let our spirits climb.

Your voice, a melody lining the air,
A balm for aching hearts,
I’d listen to your gentle wisdom,
As the world slowly departs.

For every lost friend and kindred soul,
Their shadows dance in dreams,
We gather strength from whispered tales,
In twilight's softest beams.

So I wish heaven had visiting hours,
To mend what’s torn apart,
To embrace in silence, share our smiles,
And heal each weary heart.

Until that day I hold you near,
In every breath and tear,
I cherish what your love bestowed,
For you are always here.

IT COULD BE A MIRAGE

In the heat of the desert where shadows dance light,
Whispers of promise drift in the night.
A shimmer on sand, so vivid, so bright,
Is it a vision, or lost in a flight?

Oasis of dreams wrapped in silken allure,
Water, like laughter, feels oddly procured.
With every step closer, the truth can obscure,
What glimmers ahead may not be that pure.

A lover's embrace, a touch that's divine,
Yet, fragile as gossamer, fading like wine.
We chase after wonders, our hearts intertwined,
But often the sweetest are illusions designed.

So wander with caution, dear traveler bold,
For beauty can trick us, as tales of old told.
It could be a mirage—just stories retold,
Yet in the pursuit lies a magic of gold.

Each moment we treasure, each vision we chase,
In the vastness of silence, we find our own place.
Whether real or a shadow, it’s all a soft grace,
For sometimes the journey is what we embrace.

*AT THE GATE OF THE ACADEMY*

At the gate of the academy, where dreams take flight,
I stood, a young soul, filled with hope and fright.
The morning sun cast its golden glance,
Whispers of purpose, a cadet’s advance.

Memories flood like a river in flow,
The first step taken, where courage would grow.
Prep wingers shouting, the echo of pride,
In fields of green, we learned to abide.

Marching past walls, forged by honour and pride,
Echoes of laughter, where courage resided.
In the eyes of others, a fire ignited,
A spirit of resilience, steadfast and united.

Drills at sunrise, the rhythm of commands,
Sweat mingled with pride, as we learned to stand.
From the whispers of history, lessons to glean,
In every fall, the rise, a warrior’s sheen.

The parade ground beckoned, a stage for our dreams,
With every salute, the future gleams.
I remember the nights under starlit skies,
The bond of the brave, where courage never dies.
From dawn until dusk, we forged a new fate,
In the heart of our training, we learned to relate.

Through trials and tests, we chiseled our steel,
Friendships like brotherhood, steadfast and real.
Days turned to months, in the essence of toil,
We learned to stand firm, to bleed and to boil.

At the gate of the academy, the past calls me near,
Each heartbeat echoes the lessons held dear.
Resilience and honour, now part of my core,
For God and for country, I stand even more.

The gate is a chapter, but not the last page,
Each step a testament, to purpose divine.
With pride in my heart and a vision so clear,
I look back, with a heart full of grace,
Cherishing those moments, that time can't erase.

The phenomenon of religious leaders preaching messages that cater to the desires of their audience rather than addressing deeper spiritual needs can be attributed to several factors:

1. *Desire for Acceptance*
Many leaders seek to draw in larger congregations by offering messages that are more palatable. People often prefer to hear affirmations of their lifestyle choices or desires, which can lead to a more engaged audience.

2. *Selfish Gains*
Some may exploit this dynamic for personal gain, whether financial, social, or political. The more appealing the message, the more likely followers are to provide support.

3. *Comfort vs. Challenge*
True spiritual growth often requires challenging teachings that may provoke discomfort. Leaders who shy away from tough subjects may avoid alienating members, focusing instead on light-hearted or feel-good messages.

4. *Market Dynamics*
Just like any consumer-driven environment, churches and ministries may adapt their messaging to appeal to perceived audience preferences, resulting in a focus on popular topics rather than those that foster genuine spiritual development.

5. *Lack of Accountability*
In some cases, leaders may operate without adequate checks and balances, allowing them to prioritize their interests over the spiritual welfare of their congregation.

6. *Cultural Influences*
In cultures that prize positivity, success, and personal fulfillment, messages that align with these values may dominate, marginalizing teachings that promote sacrifice, humility, and accountability.

While many religious leaders strive to provide meaningful and transformative messages, it's important for congregations to seek spiritual maturity, which may sometimes require grappling with difficult truths. Engaging in open dialogue and fostering a culture of inquiry within faith communities can help counteract the trend of preaching only what people want to hear, encouraging growth in faith and understanding.

*WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS?*

In a world of whispers, glances, and lights,
We often chase shadows, scale dizzying heights.
With polished words and a practiced smile,
Who are you trying to impress all this while?

Is it the strangers, with their fleeting grace?
Or the echoes of voices from a long-lost place?
Are you dressing for dreams that no one can see,
Or crafting a version that isn't quite free?

The mirror reflects not just skin, but a soul,
A tapestry woven with joy, pain, and whole.
Yet in the pursuit of a fleeting approval,
We forget the strength in our own inner movement.

So pause for a moment, breathe deep, take a chance,
Reconnect with the truth that lies in your stance.
For the ones who will love you, as you truly are,
Are the hearts that you carry, your own brightest stars.

Impress not the world, but the spirit within,
Embrace all your flaws, let the true journey begin.
For in the end, it’s not crowns or applause,
But the love that you nurture that earns the loudest roars.

WERE YOU THERE?

In the heart of Damasak, where shadows lay thick,
Echoes of laughter and sorrow, all entwined in a flick.
Were you there, beneath the sun’s fierce embrace?
Amidst the chaos, I found a fragile grace.

Days stretched long, with skies of heavy gray,
Each moment a battle, each dawn a new fray.
We shared our stories, whispered dreams in the night,
Were you there, my comrades, in the soft glow of light?

Through dust and debris, we stood side by side,
Facing the tempest, with courage as our guide.
In the midst of turmoil, where spirits may wane,
Were you there, my brothers, in joy and in pain?

The laughter of children rang clear through the strife,
A reminder of hope, a glimpse of new life.
Faces of strangers, now etched in my mind,
Were you there, in their smiles, the warmth we all find?

Now, as I wander through memories’ mist,
I cherish the moments, the bonds that persist.
Though the echoes may fade, and time may ensnare,
I hold you close, my friends—oh, were you there?

In every heartbeat, in each whispered prayer,
In the night’s gentle silence, I know you’re still there.
For in the soul's tapestry, woven with care,
Lies a story of bravery—together, we bear.

*FEAR IS JUST AN ILLUSION*

In shadows deep where whispers creep,
Fear wraps around like a shroud to keep.
Yet in the heart, a flicker glows,
A whisper soft that gently knows.

The monsters loom, their faces grim,
Yet light breaks forth, the old fear dim.
Each shadow cast, a tale retold,
It shapes our minds, both brave and bold.

What if the dark is but a veil,
A fleeting thought, a fragile tale?
For courage lives where doubts reside,
A spark ignites, there’s nothing to hide.

So take a step, embrace the night,
For fear dissolves in morning light.
Reality bends, illusions fade,
In dreams awake, new paths are laid.

With every breath, we rise anew,
Break chains of doubt, let spirit through.
For fear is but a fleeting mist,
A passing ghost, a slender twist.

*REMEMBERING MOMMO*

One of my friends once described Mommo as a “force of nature,” and I think that's the perfect way to capture her essence. She was unpredictable, restless, and full of life; curious about everything around her, passionate, determined, and unyielding. An adventurer and traveler at heart, she had a wonderful sense of fun and mischief. She loved to sing, especially the hymns from her childhood.

My mother had a keen interest in sports and could have easily earned an Olympic medal if she'd pursued it. While she often claimed to love all her children equally, my siblings knew I held a special place in her heart. She opened many doors for us, believing there were no limits to what we could achieve.

She encouraged us to read, work hard, and explore the world. Her pride in us was fierce. I fondly remember her during my primary school debate competition, where, at the end, I spotted her clapping enthusiastically with her hands raised high, smiling at everyone around her. In later years, as her health declined and she could no longer attend my Taekwondo competitions, she reassured me, saying, “Even if you don’t win, we’ll all know you were really the best.”

My mom loved to claim that my birthday was really HER special day, and despite my protests, I knew I had lost that argument. In our last conversation on my birthday, we talked about the names she wanted for my four daughters, as I had always expressed my desire to have only female children—a funny exchange between us.

As her final days approached, I felt increasingly weak and empty, unable to articulate what was wrong. She passed on a day that had always held significance for me—Gracie’s birthday. Before the news of her passing, I felt a profound emptiness and sadness, sensing that something terrible was about to happen. I confided in a few friends, but they dismissed my fears as paranoia. When I finally received the news of her death, it felt like my world had shattered. A significant part of me was lost, knowing my good luck charm was gone.

My mom was an extraordinary woman, and I doubt she ever fully realized the impact she had on so many lives. I treasure the memories I have of her and honor her by striving to do good.

As this time of year rolls around, I remember my heroine, my good luck charm, Ugegbe oyibom, Uwam, Afa njie jemba, and my beloved Nne Sunday. With tears in my eyes, I write this, but I find comfort and a smile in knowing we will reunite someday—and what a wonderful reunion it will be, as I have so many stories to share with her.

Sleep peacefully, Mommo, until we meet again.

*HE NEVER GOT TO GUBIO*

In the whispering winds of a silent night,
Where shadows dance in the pale moonlight,
A soldier's heart, noble and true,
Emeka, my brother, I remember you.

With courage stitched into your very soul,
You walked the path of duty, played your role,
But fate, cruel and swift, had other plans,
In the dust of Layi, where the conflict spans.

IEDs lay hidden, like secrets in the ground,
A moment, a heartbeat, then silence profound.
Your laughter, your dreams, now echoes of the past,
In the memories we hold, your spirit will last.

You never got to Gubio, the journey cut short,
In the line of duty, you fought the good fight.
With every step taken, you paved the way,
For freedom and hope, for a brighter day.

Though the battle rages, and the night feels long,
In the hearts of the brave, your memory is strong.
Emeka, my soldier, in the stars you reside,
Forever a hero, with honor and pride.

So here's to the dreamers, the fighters for peace,
May their courage inspire, and their heart never cease.
In every sunset's glow, in each dawn's gentle hue,
I’ll carry your spirit, dear friend, through and through.

ODE TO MY 001

In the garden of life, you bloom so bright,
A radiant flower, a beacon of light.
With every sunrise, your beauty unfolds,
A treasure more precious than silver or gold.

Your laughter, like music, dances in the air,
A symphony of joy, a melody rare.
In your gentle embrace, I find my peace,
With you Oju mi, all worries cease.

Through seasons of change, you stand by my side,
A partner, a lover, my faithful guide.
Your wisdom, a river that flows ever deep,
In dreams that we share, together we leap.

On this special day, as we gather and cheer,
Know that my love for you grows year after year.
May your heart be filled with joy and delight,
Happy birthday my 001, igba odun, odun kan ni.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

In the quiet of the morning light,
Take a moment, breathe in deep,
Count your blessings, pure and bright,
Harvest joy, let your heart leap.

The warmth of sun, a gentle breeze,
A friend who calls, a smile shared,
The rustling leaves of towering trees,
In simple moments, love is bared.

When shadows fall and troubles loom,
Remember the gifts each day brings,
From laughter’s echo to flowers in bloom,
Life’s melody is woven with strings.

So gather the moments, both big and small,
Treasure each heartbeat, each tender glance,
For when you count them, you’ll find them all,
Blessings abound in life’s sweet dance.
