📋What is a birth plan?

🤰A birth plan is a written document that outlines your preferences, wishes, and expectations for labour, delivery, and immediate postpartum care. It helps you communicate clearly with your healthcare team about how you’d like your childbirth experience to go — while understanding that flexibility is key, as things can change quickly during labour.

🤰A birth plan is usually written by the pregnant woman, often with support from her partner, midwife, nurse, or doctor. It is her personal plan, reflecting her preferences and values for labour, delivery, and postpartum care.

🙋‍♀️Why Is a Birth Plan Important?

👊Encourages informed decision-making

😌Reduces anxiety and fear by giving a sense of control

🏥Helps healthcare providers respect your choices

👨‍🦱Involves your partner/support system in a meaningful way.

🤔When Should a Birth Plan Be Written?

⏰Ideally, during the second or early third trimester, so,there is time to discuss and adjust with the healthcare team.

🩺fter writing it, always review and discuss it with your midwife or doctor to ensure clarity and feasibility within the chosen birth setting.

💭What is usually included in a birth plan.

✍️Preferred birth location
✍️Support persons you want in the labour room
✍️Labour preferences
✍️Delivery preferences
✍️ After birth/postpartum
✍️ Handling complications

👩🏾‍⚕️Remember:
A birth plan is not a rigid contract—it’s a guide. The priority is always the health and safety of mother and baby.

WHY YOU SHOULD BREASTFEED

Breastfeeding offers numerous benefits for mothers, including:

🤱🏽Hormonal Benefits : Breastfeeding releases oxytocin, which helps the uterus contract and reduces postpartum bleeding.

🤱🏽Weight Loss:
It helps burn extra calories, aiding in postpartum weight loss.

🤱🏽Reduced Risk of Diseases: Breastfeeding is associated with a lower risk of breast and ovarian cancers, type 2 diabetes, and postpartum depression.

🤱🏽Bone Health:
It helps in the long-term maintenance of bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis.

🤱🏽Convenience and Cost Savings:
Breast milk is always available, at the right temperature, and free, reducing the need for formula and associated costs.

🤱🏽Emotional Bonding:
It enhances the emotional bond between mother and baby through close physical contact and eye contact.

🤱🏽Delayed Menstruation: Breastfeeding can delay the return of menstruation, acting as a natural, though not foolproof, method of birth control.
