I am deeply honoured to share that The Eye Place has been recognized by the FCT Women Optometrists in Nigeria (WON) for outstanding and remarkable contributions to the association and the collective drive to achieve a country free of preventable blindness.
This recognition is not just a testament to our work, but a reminder of the journey we embarked on over a decade ago when we set out to transform access to quality eye care in Nigeria.
At The Eye Place, our mission has always been about more than just offering exceptional eye care services. It’s about advocating for healthier communities, promoting awareness, and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can access the care they need to preserve their sight.
Among our many initiatives, we are proud to have spearheaded the first-ever pre-employment vision screening for the National Law Enforcement. This groundbreaking effort emphasized the importance of vision in safety-critical roles and set a new standard for integrating eye care into occupational health practices in Nigeria.
From this pioneering work to launching community outreach programs that provide free eye screenings and eyeglasses to underserved populations, and implementing initiatives like Sight for Girls, which focuses on providing young women with essential eye care, we have been relentless in our mission to bridge gaps in eye health access. These programs were born out of a belief that vision is not just a privilege, it’s a fundamental part of living a full and dignified life.
This award is a reflection of the tireless dedication of our entire team at The Eye Place, the trust of our patients, and the unwavering support of communities and Associations like WON. It reaffirms our commitment to continue advocating for a world where no one loses their sight to preventable causes.
As we celebrate this milestone, I am reminded of the words of Helen Keller: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Ending preventable blindness in Nigeria is a collective mission, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by individuals and organizations who share this vision.
To everyone who has supported us along the way; our friends, patients, partners, and supporter, thank you for believing in this dream.
Together, we can build a future where every Nigerian can see the world clearly and fully.
Let’s keep pushing forward, one step at a time, until preventable blindness becomes a story of the past.
