Endometriosis
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic lining. This misplaced tissue behaves like the uterine lining, thickening and breaking down each menstrual cycle. However, unlike the uterine lining, it has no way to exit the body, causing inflammation, pain, and scar tissue formation.
Symptoms: While symptoms vary, some of the most common include:
Pelvic pain, especially during or around menstruation
Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
Pain during in*******se
Painful urination or bowel movements
Fatigue
Infertility
Risk Factors:
While the exact cause remains unknown, factors like genetics, menstrual blood backflow, and immune system imbalances may contribute. Early menstruation, heavy periods, and a family history of endometriosis increase the risk.
Open communication with healthcare providers is crucial for early diagnosis and effective treatment options. Treatment can include medications like hormone therapy or pain relievers, and in some cases, surgery may be necessary.
Don’t suffer in silence. If you suspect endometriosis, talk to a doctor. Together you can find a treatment plan that helps you manage this condition and live a fulfilling life.
