Plan International Nigeria continues to prioritise youth empowerment as a core part of its mandate, supporting young people, especially girls and young women, to build economic resilience through training, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. 💼📚💡

In line with this, today, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction 🤝 to advance poverty reduction through skills acquisition initiatives across Nigeria. This strategic partnership aims to scale up interventions that promote self-reliance and unlock long-term opportunities for Nigeria’s youth population. 🚀

Speaking during the signing, the Honourable Minister, Engr. Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Plan International Nigeria, stating: “This ministry is about humanity, and we look forward to working with Plan International Nigeria to give this country the honour that it truly deserves.” He further underscored the importance of aligning investments in humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding sectors: “While we are investing in humanitarian and development sectors, it comes to nothing without investing in peace. It is critical in this process to create a Nigeria that all of us dream to have.” 🕊️🌍

Through this partnership, a joint response plan will be developed, and key stakeholders across local, state, and federal levels, as well as international partners, will be engaged to drive impact at scale 📈. This collaboration reflects both institutions’ shared commitment to tackling poverty, unemployment, and low skills among vulnerable populations while ensuring young people are equipped to lead, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to national development. 🌟🙌

Last week, Plan International Nigeria proudly participated in the 2025 Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM) Summit, reaffirming our commitment to advancing menstrual dignity for girls and women across Nigeria. 💪🏽🩸

Under the theme "Empowering Lives, Breaking Barriers, Building Dignity," we presented evidence-driven approaches that are transforming how menstrual health is perceived and addressed in underserved communities. Our interactive exhibition booth spotlighted youth-led innovations, community impact, and our integrated work to dismantle stigma and expand access to safe, inclusive menstrual hygiene solutions.

We will continue to stand at the forefront of menstrual health advocacy, pushing for stronger policies, forging powerful partnerships, and championing girls’ rights so that no girl is left behind because of her period.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” — John Quincy Adams

Leadership isn’t always loud; sometimes, it could just be the reason someone believes in themselves again. Because at its core, leadership is about inspiring others.🌱

🌟 MCM Spotlight: Charles Emmamuzou Usie 🌟

Meet , a purpose-driven leader, strategist, and advocate for justice, whose life’s work is rooted in a profound belief: that every person, especially girls deserves the chance to live a decent and fulfilling life.

As the Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, Charles brings more than two decades of experience in civil society and international development into a singular mission: advancing the rights of girls and ensuring they can learn, lead, decide, and thrive. Whether coordinating humanitarian responses or leading complex partnerships, Charles consistently places gender equality and inclusion at the heart of everything he does.

Beyond the titles and accolades, Charles is a strategist with heart, someone who understands that transforming systems requires more than good intentions. It takes vision, coordination, and courage. From his earlier roles with Christian Aid, UNICEF, ActionAid, and JDPC, to his current leadership in Nigeria’s INGO Forum, Charles has helped shape policies and responses to some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, climate change, and humanitarian crises in the North.

What sets Charles apart is not just his leadership, but how he uses his platform to amplify the voices of girls, influence policy in their favour, and mobilise resources to give them real choices. Whether mentoring young leaders, shaping donor conversations, or championing inclusive programming, Charles sees every intervention as a chance to change the future for the next generation of girls.

He is also a lifelong learner. A Chevening Scholar with a Master’s from the University of Sussex in Environment, International Development and Policy, Charles continues to pursue knowledge, currently completing doctoral research in Environmental Resource Management while holding additional qualifications from institutions in Sweden, the US, and Nigeria.

Join us in celebrating a man who uses his influence to open doors for girls, strengthen systems, and inspire change across Nigeria and beyond.

"Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don't fight them. Just find a new way to stand - Oprah Winfrey

Some disruptions aren’t meant to break us; they’re simply reminders to realign. This week, take a moment to find your balance, not by resisting the shift, but by embracing it.

Have a productive week ahead.

🌟 Introducing the Campaign 🌟

The national budget is more than just numbers, it is a reflection of a government's priorities and intent and at Plan International Nigeria, we believe that the voices of girls, children, and young people should not just be heard, they must be intentionally represented in every decision that affects their lives.

In light of this, we unveiled our People-Centered Analysis of the Nigerian 2025 budget and officially launched the campaign.

While we acknowledge the government’s efforts with a ₦54.99 trillion budget, a notable improvement from the previous year, millions are still being left behind. The most vulnerable continue to be overlooked:

🚸 19.9 million children are out of school, yet only ₦1.21 billion is allocated to girls’ education.
🩸 ₦1.06 billion for menstrual hygiene is a fraction of the ₦120 billion needed to support 10 million girls.
❌ There are no dedicated funds for contraceptives or adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services.
🧵 Youth programmes still revolve around outdated schemes like sewing machines, ignoring the potential of digital and sustainable futures.
♿ Less than ₦1 billion is allocated for over 11 million persons with disabilities, that’s under ₦85 per person.

This is not a campaign of criticism but a call to action, a movement for change, and an invitation to rethink how we invest in people, especially girls, youth, and the most marginalised.

💡 The campaign stands on three pillars:
🔹 Sensitise
🔹 Empower
🔹 Act

This is more than a report. It’s a movement and as such, we urge the government, legislators, and all stakeholders to prioritise a future where every girl can learn, lead, decide, and thrive.

Let’s create a Nigeria where the budget truly reflects the needs, dreams, and dignity of its people.
