Have you ever heard of PTSD?
It stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
What is PTSD?
PTSD is a mental health condition that can happen after someone goes through something very scary, shocking, or life-threatening, like:
* An accident
* A robbery or assault
* A natural disaster
* War or serious violence
* Losing someone in a tragic way
Imagine This:
Something really bad happens, and even though it’s over, your mind and body still feel like it’s happening again. You feel stuck in fear or panic — even when there’s no danger.
Common Signs of PTSD:
* Flashbacks: You keep seeing or reliving the scary event in your mind.
* Nightmares: You have bad dreams about it.
* Avoidance: You stay away from people, places, or things that remind you of what happened.
* Always on edge: You feel jumpy, easily scared, or angry for no reason.
* Mood changes: You may feel sad, numb, guilty, or lose interest in things you used to enjoy.
Note:
* PTSD is not a sign of weakness.
* It’s your brain’s way of trying to protect you, but it gets stuck in danger mode.
* It can affect adults and children.
Can it be treated?
Yes! With therapy, support, and sometimes medication, people with PTSD can feel better and live full lives again.
