*NPMCN Accreditation Team Commends FETHI During Re-accreditation Visit*
The Faculty of Paediatrics, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), has commended the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), for its high standards in healthcare delivery, cleanliness and staff professionalism during a recent re-accreditation visit to the hospital’s Department of Paediatrics.
The accreditation team, led by Professor Adaora Okechukwu from the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, included Professor Omotayo Adeseun from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and Dr. Samuel Oninla from the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
On arrival, the team was warmly received by the hospital management and members of the Department of Paediatrics. In her opening remarks, the Head of Department, Dr. Helen Adaji, welcomed the team and described the visit as a valuable opportunity for the department to learn, grow and further strengthen its quality of training and service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the accreditation team, Professor Okechukwu expressed appreciation to FETHI’s management for the warm reception. She explained that the re-accreditation exercise was not just an evaluation process, but a collaborative effort to uphold standards, enhance quality and promote continuous improvement in healthcare education and service delivery.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Adekunle Ajayi, reaffirmed the hospital’s unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare, training and research. He described the visit as an opportunity to assess progress and identify areas for improvement, assuring the team of the management’s full support and cooperation.
Following an interactive meeting with the hospital management, the accreditation team embarked on a tour of key departments, including Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency, Intensive Care Unit, Health Information Management, Neonatal Unit, Wards, Laboratory, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Ado Annex. The team observed ongoing operations, interacted with staff and noted the hospital’s areas of strength and aspects requiring enhancement.
During a debriefing session at the end of the tour, the NPMCN team praised FETHI for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and a conducive working environment. They described the Neonatal Unit as “top-notch,” commending its structure, organization and quality of care. The team also applauded the hospital’s modern equipment, skilled personnel and strong culture of professionalism.
While giving constructive feedback, they offered recommendations on areas that could be further improved to strengthen service delivery and training outcomes.
In response to their feedback, Professor Ajayi thanked the team for their visit and insightful observations, describing the exercise as both instructive and encouraging. He assured that the management would act on the recommendations to further enhance healthcare delivery and postgraduate medical training at the hospital, while expressing optimism for a positive outcome.
In a vote of thanks, Dr. Julia Okolugbo appreciated the accreditation team for their time and valuable contributions throughout the visit.
