😞I’ve struggled to find the right words ever since the horrifying events at the festival surfaced. The images, the videos, the pain—they have haunted me. I can barely comprehend the anguish I feel in my heart as I watch those viral clips, and one question keeps tormenting me: Why is the female gender hated so deeply?
Why, in so many corners of the world, are women treated as less than human, regarded as nothing more than objects of disdain, pushed to the margins of society? Why?
For a gender that gives life—without whom humanity would cease to exist—why this relentless hatred, this violent cruelty, this overwhelming disregard for her humanity?
It’s as if so many festivals in Nigerian communities are crafted to unleash harm upon women. Why? Aren’t these festivals man-made? Why do we continue to promote and uphold traditions that only serve to perpetuate suffering and oppression? Why do we allow these horrors to continue?
So many whys.
But I thank God for the internet. For it will be the witness that exposes the horrors, the atrocities, that have been allowed to thrive in the name of "culture" for far too long. The truth is finally coming to light.
May everyone involved in the assaults and not go scot free.
