MEDICINAL BENEFITS OF ALCHORNEA CORDIFOLIA(Ifa/ipa/ sanhin/esinhin). It's called Ewe Emusen in Supare Akoko language in Ondo state.
Alchornea Cordifolia belongs to Euphorbiaceae family.Its common name is Christmas bush.The plant is called Ifa/Ipa/sanhin/esinhin/sinhin in Yoruba Language.How it is called depends on locality or idiolect of various Yoruba Communities.
Alchornea Cordifolia is called Bambani in Hausa Language and Ubudo in Igbo Language.
Aqueous extract of Alchornea Cordifolia leaves are effective for treatment of gram positive and gram negative bacterial infections.
Stem of Alchornea Cordifolia is chew to cure toothache.Leaves of Alchornea Cordifolia is good for relieving rheumantic pains.
When the leaves or leafy stems are taken as an infusion or chewed fresh, it can serve as sedative and it has antispasmodic activities and that is the reason why it is used for treatment of varieties of respiratory problems including sore throat, cough and bronchitis, genital-urinary problems including venereal diseases and female sterility, and intestinal problems including gastric ulcers, diarrhoea, amoebic dysentery and worms.One will boil and take a shot cup twice daily for two weeks.
