I have failed my children.
It's been 17 years as a father to my son and daughter.
And just as I am about to witness the graduation of my first son from secondary school,
The doctor tells me I am about to go blind.
Every night I lay awake tormented by a single question:
How did I get here?
But the answer wasn't a mystery.
3 years ago I got a job at a chemical production company.
Every day we were exposed to different toxic substances that came in contact with our eyes.
Some even smelled like p**s.
My neighbor, who was an eye doctor, saw me one day and told me that my eyes looked contaminated,
I needed to go for a check-up.
But I remember telling him that if I had the chance I would come.
I thought to myself,
Nobody is blind in my family.
I can't spend my one week transport only for an eye checkup.
I can see very well.
I'm a very busy man, I don't have time.
I repeated these excuses until I woke up one morning and discovered I could only see with my left eye.
When I got diagnosed with chronic glaucoma, it was a huge slap to my face.
I knew that my life was going to change.
Not just with myself but mostly with everyone around me.
Matthew 6:22 says that
"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light."
This is my call to help humanity.
To everyone out there who thinks they have eyes and can see,
Now is the best time to protect your vision because take it from me,
Life without vision is miserable.
