🥩 Beef Liver with Cabbage & Carrots (Banting-Friendly)

A simple, nourishing Banting meal made with real ingredients, gentle cooking, and natural flavour. This dish proves that liver can be tender, juicy, and comforting when cooked the right way.

📝 Ingredients

For the Beef Liver
• Beef liver, sliced into flat, irregular butcher-style pieces
• Paprika
• Salt
• Black pepper
• Any Banting-approved oil

For the Vegetables
• Green cabbage, sliced (use both darker outer leaves and lighter inner leaves)
• Red pepper, sliced
• Green pepper, sliced
• Carrots, sliced
• Onion, chopped
• Garlic, minced
• Salt & black pepper (to taste)

👩‍🍳 Method

Beef Liver
1. Rinse the beef liver under clean water.
2. Drain well and allow the liver to rest briefly.
3. Sprinkle paprika, salt, and black pepper over the liver.
4. Gently mix to coat, keeping slices whole and flat.
5. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onion until soft.
6. Add the garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
7. Lay the liver slices into the pan in a single layer.
8. Cover the pan and allow the liver to steam gently.
Do not add water or stock — the liver releases its own juices to create a light gravy.

Cabbage & Peppers
9. Heat oil in a clean pan.
10. Add the cabbage and sauté until slightly wilted but still vibrant.
11. Add the red and green peppers.
12. Sauté together until glossy and tender.
13. Season with salt and black pepper.

Carrots
14. Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil.
15. Add salt to the boiling water.
16. Add the carrots and cook until tender.
17. Drain well.

🍽️ To Serve

Serve the whole, flat beef liver slices with their natural gravy alongside the sautéed cabbage and peppers, with the carrots neatly arranged on the side.

🥑 Banting Tip

Liver is rich, so gentle cooking is key. Overcooking makes it tough — steaming it briefly keeps it tender and flavourful.

What Parasitic Worms Do To Your Body — A Guide

From undercooked meat to contaminated soil, parasitic worms remain a silent global health threat requiring vigilant hygiene and proper food preparation.

Parasitic worms, or helminths, are more than just a temporary stomach ache; they represent a diverse group of organisms that can inhabit the human body for years.

Tapeworms, often contracted from undercooked meat, can grow to several feet in length, while tiny pinworms cause localized discomfort that disrupts sleep, particularly in children.

Pinworms live in the intestines but cause itching around the a**s and potential secondary infections from scratching. While generally harmless and easily treated, they can cause abdominal pain and nausea.

Liver flukes are parasitic worms that infect the liver, bile ducts, and gallbladder, causing inflammation, tissue damage, and blockages, which can lead to jaundice and cancer in extreme cases.

Others, like hookworms, are even more stealthy, with larvae that pe*****te the skin directly from contaminated soil before attaching to intestinal walls to feed on blood. These infections are often signaled by abdominal pain, weight loss, or unexplained fatigue, making it crucial to recognize the varying symptoms associated with different species.

Prevention and treatment are fortunately straightforward but require consistent effort. Maintaining high standards of hygiene, such as washing produce and practicing thorough handwashing after outdoor activities, significantly reduces the risk of ingestion from contaminated soil or water. In the kitchen, ensuring meat is cooked to safe internal temperatures kills potential larvae.

If an infection is suspected through stool or blood testing, modern anti-parasitic medications like albendazole or praziquantel are highly effective at clearing the system. By combining environmental awareness with proactive health habits, most parasitic threats can be neutralized before they cause lasting harm.
