ENDORSEMENT OF DR. VICTOR KELECHI ALICHE FOR VICE PRESIDENT (NORTH), NOA

As the outgoing Vice President South of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), I, Dr. Chuks Odiase, proudly endorse Dr. Victor Kelechi Aliche for the position of Vice President North.

Dr. Aliche is a principled leader who consistently stands for truth, justice, and fairness. He has been a bold voice against oppression and intimidation, never shying away from speaking up very confidently for what is right. His passion for service and advocacy has earned him the respect of colleagues at the NEC and across the country.

I have no doubt that his leadership will bring renewed strength, transparency, and unity to the northern zone and to the NOA at large as he posseses the right personality that should be in the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Optometric Association. Dear Friends

While digitization has eased our life, it has caused strain on our eyes. It's important that we start taking care of our eyes early rather than wait for problems to strike.

Here are some easy eye care tips for the digital era:

1) Avoid reading in dim lights or in dark.

2) Keep your computer screen at a distance of 20-25 inches with your eyes 4-6 inches above center.

3) Use the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at an object that is approximately 20 feet away. This will relieve the pressure on your eyes.

4) Adjust the brightness levels of your screen according to your surrounding lights.

5) Adjust text size to make your reading as comfortable as possible.

6) Use an anti-reflective lens/glass as it absorbs blue light.

August is recognized as Children's Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month.



Adults can take easy measures to keep their children safe and protect them from eye strain & injuries.



Here are some easy ways to protect your child's eyes:

1) Regular breaks while reading to reduce eye strain

2) Limit screen time to 1-2 hrs per day

3) Eye protection while going out or playing sports

4) Eating fruits and vegetables that are high in nutrients

5) Timely eye check-ups for everyone in the family

JUNE is Cataract awareness month.

Although no studies have proven the mechanism to prevent cataracts, doctors think several strategies may be helpful such as:
Regular eye examinations
Quitting smoking
A healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits & vegetables
Wearing sunglasses
Wearing protective eyewear while playing sports
Reducing alcohol use
Be sure to schedule a regular eye examination with your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist for education and support in the treatment process.
