Wike should apologize for labeling the military officer a f%%l — Fmr Aviation minister, Osita Chidoka
Former Aviation Minister and governance expert, Osita Chidoka, has urged Minister Nyesom Wike to tender an apology to the law enforcement officer who was reportedly subjected to verbal ab¥se, stressing that public officials must exercise authority through proper institutional channels rather than personal confrontation.
In a statement shared on his page on Tuesday, Chidoka noted that every officer whether in uniform or plain clothes stands as a representative of the President and the Nigerian state. “To ins¥lt such an officer is to erode the authority of the Republic,” he said.
He described Wike’s decision to personally intervene at the disputed site as a fundamental misstep, arguing that democratic governance depends on institutions and legal procedures not direct confrontations by ministers.
Chidoka warned that engaging in a verbal exchange with security personnel following the chain of command weakens discipline and disrupts established authority lines. “An officer’s duty is to follow orders from superiors, not respond to roadside instructions; a minister’s duty is to use lawful procedures,” he explained.
He also faulted the conduct of the DSS operatives protecting Wike, stating that their role is to de-escalate and remove their principal from tense situations, not heighten them. “Security operatives must remember that their allegiance is to the state, not individuals,” he noted.
Calling the episode a lesson in leadership, Chidoka said the incident lowers the dignity of the ministerial office and damages the image of responsible governance. He concluded by insisting that Wike should apologise to the officer involved, describing the minister’s behaviour as unacceptable.
