Seventh Sunday of Easter, Year C. June 1, 2025.

Theme: Uniting All in Love

If you found yourself in the life of Stephen today, would you be able to pour out the same heart of love he did? As he was being stoned, Stephen prayed, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them” (Acts 7:60). This was not a cry for vengeance but a plea for mercy, an expression of deep love, even for his enemies.

Many of us today respond differently. When offended or attacked, we are quick to call down punishment on those against us, often invoking the “Holy Ghost fire” as a weapon against our perceived enemies. But is this the spirit of Christ?

Just like Stephen, Jesus taught us the path of love and unity. In His high priestly prayer, He said: “That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:21). This prayer for unity is one we must carry daily on our lips and, more importantly, inscribe on our hearts.

Sadly, our world today is torn apart by conflict: tribal, political, ideological, and especially religious. “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” (Luke 21:10). Religious conflict continues to fuel hatred and war in many parts of the world. But this is not the will of God. Jesus prayed that we might be one, united in His love.

Dear friends in Christ, when we truly allow the Spirit of God to dwell in us, we are united, not just with one another, but with Christ Himself. “If we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us” (1 John 4:12). As John saw in his heavenly vision: “After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9). Jesus, who sits at the Throne of God, who has poured out His Spirit on us will unite us in Heaven. God has united all nations and peoples in Christ Jesus. Today, Christ is enthroned, not as a warrior of vengeance, but as the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), seated on the throne of unity and love.

Let us then take seriously the call to love, to forgive, and to unite. “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:14). May the Church and the world heed the prayer of Christ, and may we each become instruments of that divine love which overcomes all division.

Happy New Month!

Keep me in your thoughts before God!

Happy Sunday!

*Stress Disorder and Coping Strategies*

A friend once shared with me how stressful his days had been lately, compounded by the emotional anxiety he was experiencing in his relationship. In response, he decided to take a break from work and distance himself from family to help manage his stress.

During our discussion, I acknowledged that his coping strategies were valid but also pointed out that they might not be sufficient. Simply sleeping all day does not guarantee true rest, just as a homemaker staying at home with several personal helpers does not necessarily mean she is enjoying quality time for herself.

Emotional anxiety is a significant challenge that affects our overall well-being. If left unchecked, it can take a toll on both mental and physical health. Addressing stress effectively requires more than just physical rest. It calls for intentional efforts to manage emotional burdens, cultivate resilience, and adopt healthier coping mechanisms.

At LumenCura Services, we are committed to helping you go through the life's challenges and develop effective coping strategies for stress and anxiety. Let’s work together to restore balance and well-being in your life. Join us today!

*How Does the Content of Our Hearts Impact Our Behaviour?: Towards Sustainability of Health*

This fundamental question challenges the way we live our lives. In the Gospel of Mark 7: 1-8, 14-15, 21-23, Jesus teaches us the importance of keeping our hearts pure, emphasizing that our words and actions are a reflection of what is truly within us. A heart filled with goodness leads to mental, emotional, and spiritual soundness, while a heart devoid of virtue may lead us into hypocrisy, much like the Pharisees. Our hearts are the wellspring of our thoughts, and these thoughts shape our choices and ultimately, our behaviour.

Our behaviour isn’t just a matter of spiritual concern—it is also a reflection of our moral and ethical stance in life. The choices we make, the words we speak, and the actions we take are all rooted in the state of our hearts. God’s commands, as given to Moses in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8), emphasize the importance of keeping His law intact without manipulation or distortion. Unfortunately, in today's society, many laws are manipulated to favour those in power, much like how the Pharisees focused on external rituals while neglecting the purity of their hearts.

Jesus warns us against this duplicity. It’s easy to appear compassionate on the outside while harbouring ill intentions within. This hypocritical behaviour is what He challenges us to avoid. Our behaviours, as crossroads of our spiritual lives, are manifestations of our internal realities.

In the Epistle of James (1:17-18,21-22,27), we are called to shun every unnecessary attitude or human law that serves selfish interests. James exhorts us to rid ourselves of all wickedness and to humbly accept the implanted word of God, which has the power to save our souls. We are reminded not to be mere hearers of the word but doers of it—allowing God’s teachings to transform our actions.

Friends in Christ, God is the author of every law, and He has written His law upon our hearts. Jesus lived among us to perfect this law through His teachings and perfectly through His life: to love unconditionally, to uplift rather than tear down, and to prioritize God above all else. When love becomes the foundation of our behaviour, we align ourselves with divine teachings. By keeping our hearts pure and free from impurities, we allow our actions to reflect God’s goodness, drawing us closer to Him and to one another. With this transformed behaviour, building a pure contents in our hearts, we acclaim with the Psalmist- "The one who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord", expressing respectfully the theme of our reflection: the righteous conduct that allows one to dwell in the presence of the Lord. It aligns well with the Gospel's focus on internal purity and integrity (Psalm 14 (15) 2:5).

Happy Sunday and Month of September!

Managing a healthcare crisis by an agency involves implementing several key strategies:

1. Preparation and Planning: Agencies must develop and continuously update a comprehensive crisis management plan that includes protocols for various types of crises (e.g., pandemics, natural disasters, or technological failures). Regular training for all personnel ensures that everyone understands their roles and the procedures to follow during a crisis.

2. Communication: Clear and effective communication is crucial. Establish a robust communication plan to ensure timely and accurate information dissemination to patients, staff, and external stakeholders. This includes setting up emergency communication channels and using reliable information sources.

3. Coordination: A well-coordinated response involves all relevant departments and agencies. Form a crisis management team with defined roles and responsibilities to oversee the response efforts and ensure seamless coordination between different units.

4. Resource Management: Efficient management of resources is essential. Monitor and allocate medical supplies, equipment, and personnel effectively. Develop systems for rapid procurement and distribution of additional resources as needed.

5. Patient Care: Implement triage protocols to prioritize and manage patient care based on the severity of their conditions. Ensure that critical care services remain operational and accessible, even under crisis conditions.

6. Staff Support: Provide adequate support for healthcare staff to handle the stress of a crisis. This includes offering psychological support, ensuring adequate rest, and maintaining clear communication channels to keep staff informed and motivated.

7. Evaluation and Adaptation: Post-crisis evaluation is critical for improving future responses. Assess the effectiveness of the response, identify strengths and weaknesses, and use this information to update crisis management plans and enhance preparedness for future events.
