POSTPONEMENT OF DATE FOR APTITUDE TEST.

THE HOSPITAL COMMUNITY AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT THE APTITUDE TEST FOR ND/HND PROGRAMMES INTO THE COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES, UCTH, WHICH WAS EARLIER SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE ON AUGUST 1ST, 2025, HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO FRIDAY 15TH OF AUGUST, 2025.

WE REGRET ANY INCONVENIENCES THIS POSTPONEMENT MAY CAUSE THE CANDIDATES AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

NARD July 2025 NEC Meeting Commences in Calabar .

The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) proudly hosts the July 2025 National Executive Council Meeting of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), themed “Securing the Future of Medical Practice in Nigeria: Prioritizing Physician Welfare, Training, and Systemic Reform.”

The week long events, which runs through Monday, 21st of July to Saturday, 26th July, 2025 was opened with a courtesy visit to the hospital’s Management, fostering dialogue and partnership between NARD and UCTH.

A welcome cocktail, graciously hosted by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme offered an evening of relaxation, bonding, and celebration, setting a vibrant tone for the days ahead.

In a major boost for cancer treatment, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and global healthcare company Roche have expanded their Oncology Cost-Sharing Initiative to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Through a newly signed MoU, this partnership aims to ease the financial burden of cancer care by reducing out-of-pocket expenses and improving access to life-saving treatment.

Cross River NHIA Coordinator, Stanley Effah, praised UCTH for its commitment to equity and innovation in care delivery, urging continued collaboration to make affordable cancer treatment a reality for all.

HOUSE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH INSTITUTIONS APPLAUDS UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR TEACHING HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT FOR TRANSFORMATIVE STRIDES.

The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) on Tuesday, 7th July, 2025 welcomed the Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions, Hon. Patrick Umoh, Ph.D., along with other distinguished members of the Committee from the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja. The visit formed part of their official oversight duties aimed at evaluating healthcare delivery systems and assessing infrastructure within tertiary health institutions across the country.

The delegation was warmly received by the Chief Medical Director of UCTH, Professor Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, and other members of the hospital's management team. In his welcome address, Professor Ikpeme expressed deep appreciation to the lawmakers for prioritizing healthcare and demonstrating keen interest in the growth and development of medical institutions

During the visit, the Committee conducted a comprehensive inspection of key hospital facilities, including the newly installed 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, the Water treatment plant as well as various ongoing infrastructural projects such as the main theatre complex, the re-roofing project and the Accidents, Emergency & Trauma Centre.The Committee also held interactive sessions with union leaders, taking note of both the progress made and areas that require urgent Government intervention.

In his remarks, Hon. Patrick Umoh commended the Chief Medical Director and the Management of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for the remarkable transformation in the hospital and their unwavering dedication to service delivery despite existing challenges. He pledged the Committee’s commitment to facilitating legislative support to improve funding, staffing, and infrastructure development in UCTH and other similar institutions nationwide. He further emphasized that the oversight visit aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's healthcare agenda under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which is focused on reforming and strengthening the health sector to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all Nigerians.

The oversight visit served as a significant step toward reinforcing collaboration between the Government and healthcare institutions, with the goal of enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery across the nation .

A Landmark Achievement for UCTH!

The Medical Library Department has successfully conducted its first-ever Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the Pre-Professional Examination of the UCTH College of Community Health.

The 3-hour examination was conducted smoothly and without any hitches. Impressively, the candidates’ results were submitted to the Provost just five minutes after the exam ended a testament to our growing capacity for efficiency and innovation.

This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to leveraging technology for improved transparency, service delivery, and academic excellence.

The department expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the Chief Medical Director , Prof Ikpeme A. Ikpeme , Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Innocent Abang, and Deputy CMAC (Training)Dr Felix Archibong for their steadfast support in making this vision a reality.

UCTH UNVEILS A NEW DEDICATED UROLOGY CLINICS
In a significant boost to mens' health, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has unveiled a dedicated Urology Clinics Block. The Clinics Block consisting of a Waiting area, Consulting rooms, a Procedure room & support offices is named in honour of Late Sir (Prof.)Edet Okon Nkposong, Nigeria's first Urologist who lived from 1930 to 2024.

In commissioning the Clinics, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Management expects that Urological treatments and research will vastly improve in the institution. Already, the Clinic is the site for 2 major international research endeavors on prostate cancer. At the unveiling, the Nkposong family expressed sincere appreciation to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for honouring the memory and service of their Late patriach.

We're celebrating excellence at UCTH.

We are thrilled to announce that Miss Roseline Ezinne, one of our outstanding students at the College of Nursing Sciences, UCTH, has emerged 1st Place Winner at the 2025 Nigerian Nursing Students' Olympiad – Grand Finale!

Roseline clinched the top spot in this highly competitive national event and was awarded a star prize of ₦1,000,000!

In the same spirit of excellence, Dr. Mbang Koffreh-Ada, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, also brought pride to the institution by winning the Best Poster Presentation Award at the SOGHIN (Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria) IBADAN 2025 .

This is a moment of immense pride for the entire University of Calabar Teaching Hospital community, show casing commitment to academic excellence and professionalism.
