120 Pregnancy Q&A Series

Question 59
What is kick counting?

Answer:
Kick counting is a simple way to check on your baby’s wellbeing by counting how often they move.

From 28 weeks of pregnancy, you can start doing this.

Choose a time each day when your baby is usually active and you are relaxed, often about one hour after eating.

How to do kick counting:

Step 1: Gently wake your baby by eating, drinking water, walking a little, talking to your baby, or lightly touching your belly.

Step 2: Lie on your left side and place your hands on your tummy. This helps blood flow to your baby.

Step 3: Count each movement you feel for one hour.

Most babies move about 10 times within one to two hours.

If you do not feel 10 movements after two hours, contact your healthcare provider.

Question 58: How often should you feel your baby move❓

💃Answer:
How often you feel your baby move depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy.

📌In the early months, baby movements may come and go, and that is normal. At this stage, there may be no clear pattern yet.

As your pregnancy gets closer to the third trimester, your baby will develop a regular movement pattern.
📌
By then, you should feel your baby move about 10 times within one to two hours.

Babies also sleep, so they may be quieter at certain times of the day and more active after meals or in the evening.

📌What matters most is consistency. Once your baby has a normal pattern, you should feel them move every day.

⚠️If you notice your baby is moving less than usual, always contact your healthcare provider.
