๐ตWhat is H.PYLORI?
Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is a spiral shaped bacterium. These type of bacteria are germs that can enter your body and live in your digestive tract. After many years they can cause sores, called ulcer, in the lining of your stomach or the upper part of your intestine. For some people, an infection can lead to stomach cancer.
๐ตH.pylori is a general gram negative bacterium that causes chronic inflammation (infection) in the stomach and duodenum, and is a common contagious cause of ulcer worldwide.
These bacteria are some times termed "ulcer bacteria ".
Although many infected individuals have no symptoms, other infected individuals may have some of these symptoms bellow:

๐๐ผabdominal pain/discomfort
๐๐ผfatigue
๐๐ผbloating
๐๐ผminor belching
๐๐ผpeptic ulcer
๐๐ผpassing dark or tarry-like stools
๐๐ผdiarrhea
๐๐ผnausea and vomiting that may include vomiting blood
๐๐ผlow blood cell count (anemia) due to bleeding
๐๐ผdecrease appetite that is more constant
๐๐ผheartburn
๐๐ผbad breath (halitosis)
๐๐ผfull feeling after consuming small amount of food.
๐ตHow do I get H.pylori?
You can get H.pylori from food, water, or utensils. It's more common in countries or communities that lack clean water or good sewage system. You can also pick up the bacteria through contact with the saliva or their fluids of infected people.
๐ตCan I give H.pylori to my family?
Yes, H.pylori is contagious; however, some individuals may simply have the bacteria in their gut, and the bacteria causes no symptoms of disease.
๐ตDiagnosis of H.pylori infection includes; tests for antibodies in blood, a urea breath test, tests for antigens in stool, and endoscopic biopsies.
