THE BIGGEST CULPRIT TO YOUR DRY EYES MAY BE THE TIME SPENT ON DIGITAL DEVICES.
-
-
Every time we go on holiday and we spend more time outside instead of looking at our computer most of the day, we find that we do not suffer from dry eyes as often as we do when we work. We have recently experienced this again when going to dry location, and realised that notwithstanding the dry climate and harsh sun, was far more comfortable and did not need to lubricate our eyes as often as we normally do.

The moment we're back from holiday and on our computer and other digital devices for most of the days, our problem with dry eyes start all over again.
-
-
The biggest problem when on digital devices is that one tends to stare at the screen as one is so focussed on the task at hand, that one forget to blink often and to take regular computer breaks.
-
-
The ideal is to follow the 20/20/20 principle - look away from the screen every 20 minutes into a distance of 20 feet(6 meter) and even more. Do this for at least 20 seconds at a time.
-
-
The problem is that when one is on a roll and focuses at the job at hand with great concentration, 20 minutes, even 2 - 3 hours can fly by without ever looking away - hence it is advisable that you set your alarm for every 20 minutes if possible.

Severe dry eyes can cause corneal scarring and other problems too. Severe dry eyes can actually cause such blurred vision that you think you are having cataracts or other problems with your eyes while all the time your eyes are just very dry.

It is advisable to keep specially designed lubricant at hand and instil these drops at least 3ร per day. These are available at a pharmacy base on consultant prescriptions.

There can be other causes for dry eyes, which can only be rectified by seeing an ophthalmologist.
