Some tips for hypersalivation and hypersialorrhea during pregnancy.
In some women, pregnancy is accompanied by excessive salivation that is not always easy to bear.
Also called hypersialorrhea or ptyalism, this presence of excess saliva has no defined cause, even if hormonal changes due to pregnancy are strongly suspected, as is the case for many pregnancy ailments.
Hypersalivation in pregnant women is due to overproduction of saliva by the salivary glands. The signs and symptoms of hypersalivation are therefore:
✓approximately twice as much production of bitter-tasting saliva (up to 2 liters per day!);
✓a thickening of the tongue;
✓swollen cheeks due to the size of the salivary glands.
Other habits and natural remedies can relieve hypersalivation:
- limit starchy foods and dairy products while maintaining a balanced diet;
- favor light meals and several small snacks per day;
- sugar-free chewing gum and candies can help limit salivation;
- brushing your teeth or mouthwashing with mint-based products freshens your breath and helps to better cope with excess saliva.
- If inflammation of the oral cavity: Pineapple and Papaya dissipate oral fire.
- Propolis extract to clean the oral cavity in case of irritation and bad breath.
- Buy ginger root powder and green anise powder. Mix them. Take a teaspoon of this preparation twice a day with a spoonful of yogurt.
NB: BE CAREFUL with spitting out excess saliva: ultimately, it can lead to dehydration. If you are tempted to spit to eliminate saliva, you will make sure to hydrate well afterwards.
