SPINAL BEFIDA!

It happens during the first 28 days of pregnancy, often before you know you’re pregnant.

Even though there is no known cause, spina bifida can be avoided with some simple measures to follow:

✅ Take a vitamin with 400 mcg (0.4 mg) folic acid every day pre-pregnancy which could reduce the incidence by up to 75%.
✅ Do not take any prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal and dietary supplements and vitamins without medical supervision.
✅ Treat any fevers immediately with Paracetamol and inform your birth provider.
✅ Avoid using hot tubs or saunas that overheat your body.
✅ If you have diabetes or obesity, be sure to manage these conditions before you get pregnant.

Pre-pregnancy planning and counseling with your birth provider is very important for a healthy pregnancy and baby ❤️

Nursing School is Producing Grades, Not Grit.”

You are raising exam warriors — not bedside heroes.

They memorize hundreds of diseases but never learn how to hold a patient’s hand.
They recite lab values, but no one teaches us how to survive a night shift.
They ace pharmacology but freeze during real emergencies.
They study to pass, not to practice.
And every day, the gap between classroom and clinic widens.

Some students graduate having never touched a mannequin.
Some are taught by people who haven’t touched a patient in years.
Skills lab? Maybe once.
Clinical posting? Just sign the logbook.
A system where grades matter more than growth. Where theory is everything, and compassion is optional.

And then we’re told: “Welcome to the real world.”

The truth? The real world is drowning — and it needs nurses, not degree holders.
It needs critical thinkers. Team players. Caregivers. Fighters.
It needs grit.

But how do you teach grit in a system that rewards silence over questions?

Here’s a real-life placenta that supported triplets growing at the same time in one womb!
Can you spot the three umbilical cords? Each cord connected a baby to this shared placenta, delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout pregnancy.

A triplet pregnancy can have one placenta (monochorionic) or multiple placentas, depending on how the embryos develop.

This one shows a single fused placenta shared by all three babies.

Managing triplet pregnancies requires close monitoring to ensure each baby is growing well and getting enough blood supply.

Always inspect the placenta after birth especially in multiple births to make sure it's complete and there are no retained parts.

CERVICAL DILATION- OPENING OF THE CERVIX

Some times clients get to a point where they feel the labor pain is so much and you have to push baby out immediately, but your midwife is saying no. You still have more time to go. She checks and says you are only 2,3 or 6cm.Wait a little. This is why. The fact that you are contracting and in pain does not mean you can push the baby out.

Cervix is the opening or mouth of the uterus

It is closed by a mucus plug during pregnancy to prevent infection or anything from entering the uterus

When labor sets in the mucus plug is disloged. It can be a gradual process. Getting to the end of pregnancy the mucus plug starts to dislodge little by little.

As your uterus contracts and the hormones are released, it causes the cervix to dilate or open from 1 cm to 10 cm.

At 10cm cervix is fully open and you will be guided to birth your baby😊😊😊

Vaginal examination is done every 4 hours to check the progress of the dilatation

If at a point cervix stops dilating and the patograph indicates you are crossing the action line, you will be reveiwed and other interventions introduced, like augmentation or caesarian section

Dilating through cervix can cause serious injuries that can be difficult to repair.

Cooperate with your midwife.

Only push or bear down when the midwife has confirmed the cervix is dilated.

After the birth of your baby and placenta, the uterus contracts and the cervix goes back to its pre pragnancy state 😊
