*MWAN EBONYI in collabation with CAMIAfrica COMMEMORATES WORLD AUTISM DAY, 2ND APRIL 2024* 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹

🟣Autism spectrum disorder is a group of developmental disabilities in which children may behave, communicate, interact and learn in ways that are different from most other children.

🟣Some signs of autism include:
👉Lack of or delay in spoken language
👉 Limited social interaction
👉Repetitive behaviors
👉Difficulty with change/ Rigidity
👉Difficulty with communication
👉Fixation on specific topics or objects
👉Sensory sensitivities.

🟣The prevalence of autism is rising in Nigeria and indeed globally.

🟣 According to the estimates from CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network *1 in 36* *children* has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

🟣This has been attributed to increase in awareness of autism.

🟣Though there is no known cause of autism currently, there is a strong link with some combination of genetic, biologic and environmental factors.

🔹ASD occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

🔹It is nearly *4 times more common among boys than among girls* .

🟣To spread awareness around the condition and to enhance efforts in educating, empowering and supporting people with this condition, *World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated every year on April 2 ever since 2007* after the resolution passed by United Nations General Assembly .

🔹 It aims to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, promote awareness about the challenges individuals with autism face, and foster support for their rights.

🟣Autism is a *spectrum* disorder, which means that individuals with autism *can have a wide range of strengths and challenges.*

🟣 Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in helping individuals with autism reach their full potential.

🟣On the 2nd of April every year , many organizations and communities around the world hold events, activities, and campaigns to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder and to promote inclusion and acceptance of individuals with autism.

🟣 It is a day to *celebrate the unique talents and strengths of people with autism* and to work towards a more inclusive society.

*The theme of this year's World Autism Awareness Day is 'Awareness – Acceptance –* *Appreciation: Moving from surviving to thriving* '.

🟣In a world where you can be anything *, be kind, be understanding, and be an advocate* for *acceptance and inclusion* .

*MWAN EBONYI COMMEMORATES WORLD HEARING DAY 2024*

🔹World Hearing Day is observed on *March 3rd* every year.

🔹It is an initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.

🔹 The day aims to encourage people to take action to prevent and control hearing loss and related disorders.

🔹It is a day designated to educate the public about the causes of hearing loss, the importance of early identification and intervention, and the available treatment options.

🔹Additionally, the day serves as an opportunity to advocate for better access to hearing healthcare services and to promote hearing loss prevention through public health initiatives.

🔹👂Hearing loss has often been referred to as an “invisible disability”, not just because of the lack of visible symptoms, but because it has long been stigmatized in communities and ignored by policy-makers."

🟣 The theme of this year is "Changing mindsets:
Let’s make ear and hearing care a reality for all"
🔹👂World Hearing Day 2024 focuses on overcoming the challenges posed by societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets through awareness-raising and information-sharing, targeted at the public and health care providers.

🔹Deeply ingrained societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets are key factors that limit efforts for preventing and addressing hearing loss.
Changing mindsets related to ear and hearing care is crucial to improving access and mitigating the cost of unaddressed hearing loss.

🔹World Hearing Day 2024 focuses on the following objectives:
✅Counter the common misperceptions related to ear and hearing problems in communities and among health care providers.

✅Provide accurate and evidence-based information to change public perceptions of ear and hearing problems.

✅Call on countries and civil society to address misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets related to hearing loss, as a crucial step towards ensuring equitable access to ear and hearing care.

❤️❤️"Let us listen not only with our ears but with our hearts, for in the quiet moments of listening, we may hear the world speaking to us in ways we never imagined.

🔹🔹Embrace the gift of sound, cherish the beauty of silence, and let us strive to create a world where every voice is heard and every ear is open.

😊 😊 Happy World Hearing Day 2024!"
