FOODS TO AVOID IN THE FIRST TRIMESTER
1.❄️ Pineapple:;- this contains bromelain which softens the cervix and starts untimely labor contractions resulting in miscarriage when consumed in a large amount it causes bleeding.
2.❄️ Crabs::- Although crabs are a rich source of calcium, they also contain high levels of cholesterol, which can cause shrinkage of the uterus and lead to internal bleeding and miscarriage.
3.❄️ Sesame seed::- this should be consumed in a minimal amount, sesame seed whether the black or white variety, when consumed along with honey can cause trouble during early pregnancy.
4.❄️ Animal liver;- if consumed in large quantities by pregnant women, eating this promotes a gradual accumulation of retinol which may adversely affect the baby's health.
5.❄️ Pawpaw:- unripe and green papaya have components that act as laxatives and bring on premature labor, papaya seeds have enzymes that cause contraction of the uterus, resulting in miscarriage.
6.❄️ Drumsticks:- this comprises alpha-sitosterol which is detrimental to pregnancy, as a drumstick is rich in iron and calcium it can be eaten in limited quantities.
7.❄️ Raw dairy products:- unpasteurized milk and cheese like Gorgonzola, mozzarella, feta, and brie possess diesese-carrying bacteria, which can be harmful to pregnancy.
8.❄️ Caffeine:- caffeine in moderation is safe during pregnancy, but it's advisable to observe some restraint as an increase in intake of caffeine can cause an underweight baby and lead to miscarriage.
9.❄️ Mercury-rich fish:- Avoid varieties having high Mercury content like king mackerel, orange roughly, Marlin, shark, tilefish, and swordfish. Excessive Mercury intake can adversely affect the baby's developing brain and nervous system.
10. ❄️Peaches:- if consumed in large quantities during pregnancy can produce excessive heat in the body and lead to internal bleeding.
11.❄️Alcohol:- this negatively impacts the brain development of the fetus at the same time it increases the chances of miscarriage and stillbirth
Maintaining a balanced diet is essential during pregnancy. Anything eating excessively can be harmful.
