🫁 WORLD TB DAY 2026:
Theme: Yes! We Can End TB.
On this World TB Day, HORI AFRICA (Hub of Radiography Initiative) stands proud with the global community, reinforcing our commitment to the theme: “Yes! We can end TB.”
Progress is being made, but the work continues:
📉 Since 2015, we have seen a 29% drop in TB deaths.
💡 However, the burden remains high, with over 1.23 million lives lost to TB in 2024.
💪🏾 The Frontline Role of Medical Radiographers in TB Diagnosis
At HORI AFRICA, we highlight the indispensable role of Radiographers as the first line of defense in the diagnosis of Tuberculosis. While laboratory tests confirm the disease, imaging is often the spark that initiates the entire diagnostic pathway.
How Radiographers Fight TB:
✅ Early Detection via Chest X-ray (CXR): Radiographers capture high-quality images that can reveal signs of TB (like consolidation, cavities, or hilar enlargement) before symptoms are severe, making CXR an essential screening tool, especially in high-prevalence areas.
✅ Rapid Screening & Triage: Using digital radiography and sometimes AI assistance, radiographers can rapidly identify patients who need definitive molecular testing (like GeneXpert).
✅ Monitoring Treatment Progress: Radiographers perform follow-up scans to visually confirm if a patient is responding to therapy.
✅ Combatting Stigma: By providing professional, empathetic, and efficient imaging services, radiographers help normalize the diagnostic process, encouraging more people to get tested without fear.
🌍 What You Can Do to Help End TB:
✅ Educate yourself on TB causes, symptoms, and prevention.
✅ If you have a cough for more than two weeks, or think you have TB, get tested, get treated.
✅ Don’t believe in myths or misinformation.
✅ Stand up against TB stigma and discrimination.
Join HORI AFRICA and radiographers across the continent in saying: Yes! We can end TB.
