CaI@mity: B0mb expl0si0ñ kì 5, injùrè§ many in Imo market

A devastating bomb expl0si0n rocked Ubeheze market in Awo Idemili, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, on Tuesday, leaving at least five people dè@d and several others wounded.

The expl0si0n occurred 11 am when traders were opening their stores.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as h0rrific with de@d bodies littering the ground and w0unded individuals lying in pools of bl00.d.

A viral video showed people wailing and structures in the market bl0wn into pieces.

Residents, who spoke to The Nation on condition of anonymity expressed sh0ckk and fe@r over the incident.

One eyewitness said:”We opened the market around 11 am, traders were seen bringing out their goods and suddenly what we heard was an expl0§ì0n that rocked the entire market.

“Structures in the market were blown into pieces as woods, zincs, and other items were seen flying all over the place. Many traders were k by the b0mb expl0sion, including children.”

Another eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as h0rrific. “The b0.mb went off around 11 AM. People had already started trading when it happened. It was tèrrifying—de@d bodies everywhere and many injùred. Why would anyone plant a b0.mb in a market? This is pure evìĺ,” he said.

The expl0§ion caused significant d@mage to market structures, reducing some stalls to rubble.

Orsu LGA has become a hotspot for vi0.lent att@cks in recent times, with many communities in the area reportedly deserted due to persistent insecurity.

Another resident, who declined to be named due to security concerns, said: “I don’t want to speak because in that village, no youth is in the village. People are being careful because since five years ago, no police, except Ebubeagu and the army. Everybody is careful to say something that will bring calamity to his family.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, had not issued an official statement on the incident.

Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan and her husband arrive in court alongside Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and her husband, Emmanuel, alongside former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and activist, Aisha Yesufu, have arrived at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, at Maitama, ahead of Senator Natasha’s arraignment.

The Federal Government is prosecuting the Senator representing Kogi West over an allegation that she made a false claim that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and a former Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, plotted to ass@ssinate her.

The Federal Government, in the three-count charge marked CR/297/25, alleged that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was listed as the sole defendant, made the false and defamatory remarks when she appeared as a guest on live television.

It specifically accused the lawmaker, who is currently on a six-month suspension, of making “imputation, knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.”

According to the charge, by making such false imputation that tarnished the image of others, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan committed an offence under 391 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990.

It added that the alleged offence is punishable under section 392 of the same law.
Giving particulars of the offence in count one of the charge, the federal government, told the court that the lawmaker committed the alleged crime on April 3, during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The lawmaker was said to have made an allegation that some politicians opposed to her were plotting to assassinate her.

Meanwhile, among those listed as witnesses in the matter were Akpabio and Bello, who were cited as nominal complainants.

Other witnesses billed to testify in the case are two police officers who investigated the matter, Maya Iliya and Abdulhafiz Garba; a Senator, Asuquo Ekpenyong and one Sandra Duru.
