Memfys Hospital was founded in 2002 as a pioneering Neurosurgical unit based in Enugu, Nigeria. The first and only specialist hospital of its kind in Africa, its mission has always been to offer a standard of neurosurgical and neurological patient care comparable to that found in developed countries. Although Memfys Hospital is a private hospital it provides public benefits particularly in training staff. Memfys Hospital provides training for young and more experienced doctors embarking on a career in Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery. Memfys Hospital is accredited by the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) for full training in neurosurgery making it the fourth centre to be so recognized in Nigeria alongside University College Hospital Ibadan (UCH) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and University of Sokoto Teaching Hospital. It is the only private health institution to enjoy this status in all of Africa. Memfys Hospital also provides the mandatory training in neurosurgery for doctors specialising in Anasthesia, ENT and Opthamology. To date about 50 doctors have been trained in Memfys Hospital. On the 12th of December, 2024, Memfys Hospital signed a MoU with the Enugu State University of Science & Technology Teaching Hospital (ESUTH) for a greater collaboration in the Medical Research and Training of Postgraduate Medical Doctors.

This collaboration was hoped to strengthen the relationship between both institutions and bring about increase in the number of competent Neurosurgeons in Nigeria and South-East in particular.

It is also is a testament to the integrity, professionalism and remarkable contributions Memfys Hospital have made in the field of Neurosurgery and Diagnostics as well as a show of confidence and trust that Government established institutions have on Memfys Hospital, Enugu.

Following this historic event, was the Inaugural Lecture that was delivered by one of our very best Neurosurgeons, Prof. Ndubuisi Chika Anele, Head/Consultant Neurosurgeon, Memfys Neurosurgery unit at the ESUTH College of Medicine auditorium, Parklane, Enugu.

The topic of the Inaugural lecture was, *"Preventing the Paralysis Paradox in our Nervous and Medical Systems: Identifying the problems and igniting progress"* and was the 41st lecture delivered by an ESUT Professor and the 9th lecture delivered this year 2024.

2023 SUCCESSFUL MEMFYS POSTGRADUATE RESIDENTS

Memfys Hospital, Enugu is proud to present and celebrate the successes recorded by its Resident Doctors that excelled brilliantly in the 2023 Part II Final Examinations of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) that held in April, May and October this year.

Starting from the latest is Dr. Hart Idawarifagha, a Senior Registrar from the RSUTH, Port-Harcourt, who colourfully passed the Part II WACS final examinations that held between 16th and 18th October, 2023.

Earlier in May 2023 was a brilliant performance recorded by Dr. Achebe, Ndubuisi Sunday, a Senior Registrar at Memfys Hospital, at the NPMCN Part II Final Examinations that held in Lagos.

Lastly, were Drs. Campbell, Francis Chukwuebuka and Ndafia, Ned Michael who both emerged successful at the WACS final examinations that held in April, 2023 at Abuja.

They all were Neurosurgery Residents at Memfys Hospital, Enugu and have made us proud with their exceptional performances at the both Colleges final examinations.

The Management, Staff and Patients of Memfys Hospital, Enugu are very proud of them as we celebrate their accomplishments and wish them the very best in their respective future endeavors.
