Kidney failure rates have been on the rise lately. It's important to take care of our health and spread awareness about it.

It's always better to prioritize our health and make healthy choices.
So to take care of your kidneys, you can try the following:

1. STAY HYDRATED: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to support proper kidney function.

2. EAT A BALANCED DIET: Include fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins in your meals. Limit salt, sugar and processed foods.

3. EXERCISE REGULARLY: Engage in physical activity to maintain a healthy weight and promote overall well-being.

4. CONTROL BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIABETES: Manage these conditions through regular check-ups, medication and a healthy lifestyle.

5.AVOID EXCESSIVE USE OF MEDICATIONS: Follow prescribed dosage and consult your doctor before taking any new medications.

Stay safe and healthy.

Yesterday during our zoom meeting with Dr. Harrison James and some students Neurologist a question was asked; "How do I know if my kidney is functioning properly?"

Here are a few signs that might indicates your kidneys are not functioning properly:

1. CHANGE IN URINATION: Paying attention to the changes in your urination patterns. This could include more frequent urination, difficulty in urinating or changes in the color and smell of your urine.

2. SWELLING: Kidney problems can lead to swelling in your legs, ankles, feet, face or hands due to the body retaining extra fluid (Edema).

3.FATIGUE AND WEAKNESS: Healthy kidneys produce a hormones called "Erythropoietin" which helps in the production of red blood cells. Kidney problems can lead to anemia, causing fatigue and weakness.

4. SHORTNESS IN BREATHING: Kidney disease can lead to fluid buildup in the lungs, causing shortness in breathing.

5. ITCHING AND SKIN RASHES: Kidney failure can cause waste products to accumulate in the blood, leading to skin problems like itching and rashes.

6. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: Kidneys play a vital role in regulating blood pressure. Chronic kidney disease can lead to high blood pressure or can be a result of high blood pressure.

7. NAUSEA AND VOMITING: Buildup of waste products in the body can cause nausea and vomiting.

8. METALLIC TASTE IN MOUTH: kidney dysfunction can lead to a metallic taste in the mouth and bad breath.

9. BLOOD IN URINE: This is a sign that there might be a problem with your kidneys or urinary tract and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

10. PUFFINESS AROUND EYES: swelling (Edema) around the eyes, especially in the morning, can be a sign of kidney problems.

If experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to visit the hospital or any healthcare provider. Regular check-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including staying hydrated, exercising can support kidney health.

Poeple with CKD may not feel ill or notice any symptoms. The only way to find out for sure if you have CKD is through specific blood and urine tests. These tests include measurement of both the creatinine level in the blood and protein in the urine. CKD tends to get worse over time so it should be treated (the earlier treatment starts the better).

Today is world Kidney Day
There celebrate it by wearing a green cloth.

PREVENTION

To reduce your risk of developing kidney disease:
✓Don't Smoke: Cigarette smoking can damage your kidneys and make exiting kidney damage worse. To protect your kidney you have to stop smoking.

✓Maintain A Healthy Weight: If you're at a healthy weight, maintain it by being physically active most days of the week. If you need to lose weight, talk with your doctor about strategies for healthy weight loss.

✓Manage Your Medical Conditions With Your Doctor Help. If you have disease or conditions that increase your risk of kidney disease, work with your doctor to control them. Ask your doctor about tests to look for signs of kidney damage.

✓Follow Instructions on over-the-counter medications. When using nonprescription pain relievers, such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), follow the instructions on the package. Taking too many pain relievers for a long time could lead to kidney damage.

Therefore take note and be wise.
