Transmission of hepatitis A virus can occur from any s*xual activity with an infected person and is not limited to fecal-oral contact. People who are s*xually active are considered at risk for hepatitis A if they are MSM, live with or are having s*x with an infected person, or inject drugs.

There is no cure for hepatitis once it occurs. Treatment focuses on preventing further damage to the liver, reversing existing damage if possible and symptom relief. Most cases of acute hepatitis will resolve over time.

The acute illness most often goes away after 2 to 3 weeks. The liver most often returns to normal within 4 to 6 months in most people. Almost all newborns and about one half of children who get hepatitis B develop the chronic condition. Very few adults who get the virus develop chronic hepatitis B.
