Some issues with herbs and supplements for high blood pressure.

Several online adverts claim to have total cure for high blood pressure, with the use of certain herbs, massage devices, teas etc.

While these measures can work to some extent, you should be wary of product claims.

One thing you must know about high blood pressure is that triggers vary from person to person.

Moreso, it takes multiple approaches and a careful look into the triggers, followed by consistency to get results.

Did you know that the brain, kidneys, heart, blood vessels and peripheral nervous system are directly involved in blood pressure regularly?

How then does a product that only cleans the blood vessels help someone with anxiety?

Another interesting thing you also need to know is, your eyes, nose, skin, tongue and skin play indirect roles in blood pressure regularly.

Let me give you a vivid example. Using the nose for instance. Some essential oils cause calmness when inhaled through the nose.

So, the nerves in your nose sends signal to your brain, telling it to relax the muscles, open blood vessels and slow down the heart rate.
In the same way, others cause excitement.

In summary, before you get a blood pressure supplement or device, understand why you have high blood pressure.

If you are a patient, ask your Pharmacist and doctor what your test results mean, and why you are using a medication, rather than the other.

When you get involved in your health, you get better care.

Did you know that Peptic ulcer disease could be responsible for high blood pressure?

Yes, stomach ulcer can cause hypertension. Peptic or stomach ulcer is commonly caused by two (2) factors:

1. Long term use of pain killers that are known as NSAIDs. These pain killers include Ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, meloxicam, piroxicam, and indomethacin (popularly known as indocid).

2. Helicobacter pylori infection: H. pylori is a bacteria that causes the other form of ulcer.

The interesting thing about H. pylori is the ability it has to increase the levels of bad cholesterol. Over time, this causes high blood pressure and changes in the size of the heart.

If the H. pylori is not dealt with, the person may continue to treat high blood pressure.

H. pylori is curable with a combination of two antibiotics and a stomach acid reducer called proton pump inhibitors.

Common Myths About High Blood Pressure

1. I am too young to have high blood pressure
This statement looks innocent and often makes young people reluctant to check their blood pressure.

Fact: the risk of high blood pressure increases with age, but factors like family history or unhealthy life-style choices increase the chances.

So, you are not too young to develop high blood pressure. Ensure you check your blood pressure today.

2. It is better I do not know my blood pressure reading. What I don’t know will not kill me.

This is false. The ignorance of a rising blood pressure or wishing blood pressure away does not mean you will be safe.
It is safer to be sure of your readings and act to either prevent hypertension or reverse the effects.

3. I will know I have blood pressure when body tells me.

Fact: High blood pressure does not commonly come with signs.

You do not have to wait till the signs of complications appear before taking actions to prevent or treat high blood pressure.

4. High blood pressure is more common in men.

Fact: Before the age of 50, high blood pressure is more common in men than women.

However, after menopause (where menstruation ceases in women), women have higher chances of developing high blood pressure.

Women also have some unique risk factors that affect how soon they can develop high blood pressure.

These risks include the use of birth control pills, injections, and implants (family planning) as well as pregnancy.
