"To God be the glory and gratitude for granting us the privilege to witness this event that pertains to our health, without which none of human activities can manifest itself," he said, extending the governor’s greetings and appreciation to all attendees.
The Deputy Governor went on to highlighten the achievements in the health sector since Governor Inuwa Yahaya assumed office in 2019, where he noted several key milestones.
"Gombe State remains committed to improving the health and well-being of our citizens," he stated. "We have consistently increased funding for healthcare in our state budget from 3.5% in 2019 to 15% today, in line with the Abuja Declaration."
Other achievements include the establishment of the Gombe State Contributory Health Agency, with over 300,000 beneficiaries, and improved drug availability through the Drug Management Agency.
Dr. Jatau revealed that a total of 103 PHCs and an additional 66 health clinics have been revitalised with support from the World Bank’s IMPACT project. The upgraded facilities now have solar power, clean water supply, medical equipment, and staff accommodations.
"As we commission these facilities, I emphasise the need for local ownership and sustainability," he said. "We must work together to ensure that these facilities continue to serve our citizens for years to come."
Commissioner of Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, in his overview, explained that the revitalisation programme was initiated to correct poor health indices in the state, particularly in maternal health, malnutrition, and zero-dose vaccination.
"This project is as a result of the commitment of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to improve the health sector," Dr. Dahiru said, calling on traditional rulers and community leaders to encourage residents to make full use of the facilities.
Also speaking at the event, the Technical Team Lead of the IMPACT project, Dr. Onoriode Ezire, praised the Gombe State Government for its prudent use of resources.
"Gombe State has set an example by constructing high-quality health structures with little funds across Nigeria," he said.
Dr. Amina Abdu-One Mohammed, National Project Coordinator of IMPACT, stressed the importance of equipping health facilities with the right infrastructure, drugs, and personnel to ensure their success.
"Now that the structures, personnel, and drugs are in place, all stakeholders must ensure the people are aware and encouraged to access these services," she added.
