*6 Ways You're Ruining Your Heart*
Your heart is a complex machine, but keeping it healthy is easy.
Earlier this year, a study in the journal Circulation reported that heart disease was still the #1 cause of death worldwide. The extraordinary circumstances of dealing with COVID-19 have changed the way we live, including adopting unhealthy behaviors that are known to increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
*1 You're Not Getting Your Blood Pressure Checked*
In 2018, the American Heart Association lowered the guideline for healthy blood pressure from below 140/90 to below 120/80. That means up to 8 out of 10 men over age 55 technically have high blood pressure (hypertension). Over time, hypertension can weaken the walls of blood vessels, increasing your risk of a heart attack—not to mention stroke and dementia.
To lower your risk, get your blood pressure checked regularly, and follow your doctor's advice on how to keep it in a healthy range. The biggest pro tips: Eat a heart-healthy diet (like Mediterranean or DASH), maintain an optimal weight, and stay active.
*2 You Don't Know Your Cholesterol Levels*
As we age, the body naturally produces more cholesterol, which can build up in the arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease. Experts advise getting your cholesterol checked every five years. Older adults may need to be checked more often. Your total cholesterol level should be less than 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), with an LDL ("bad cholesterol") of less than 100 mg/dL and an HDL ("good cholesterol") level of 60 mg/dL or higher. To keep your levels in good stead, eat a diet low in saturated fat and trans fats, exercise most days of the week, and keep your weight in an ideal range. If your bad cholesterol is high, it's not necessarily because of your diet—your doctor may advise taking medication to keep your heart healthy. The first step is getting checked.
*3. You're Eating Too Much Sugar*
It's not just cholesterol that can wreck your heart. Consuming too much added sugar—whether it's in sodas and cookies or the processed foods you'd never expect (hello, canned pasta sauce)—is a major risk factor for heart disease. Added sugar intake can lead to blood pressure, bodily inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease, all conditions that can skyrocket your chance of having a heart attack. The American Heart Association advises that adults consume no more than 150 calories (about 9 teaspoons, or 36 grams) of added sugar daily. That's about the amount in one can of soda.
**4 You're Not Getting Enough Exercise*
Even before the pandemic forced most of us indoors and out of our gym routines, only 20 percent of Americans were following the American Heart Association's weekly exercise guidelines for heart health: 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week (or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise), plus muscle-strengthening exercise two times a week. For your heart's sake, get up and get moving, even if it's just a walk around the block. A little exercise is better than none.
*5. You're Still Smoking*

The past 14 months of pandemic have pushed stress levels into the stratosphere, leading many of us to lean on unhealthy habits like smoking to cope. Now is the time to come back down to earth. Experts say that cigarette smoking is the No. 1 preventable cause of death. A big reason why: The toxins in to***co smoke damage arteries, spiking your risk of a heart attack. If you're having trouble kicking the habit, your doctor can help. And know that it's never too late: Even people who quit smoking between the ages of 65 to 69 can add one to four years to their lives.
*6. You're Drinking Too Much Alcohol*
Alcohol's effect on your liver is well-known, but excessive drinking can take a serious toll on your heart too. It can raise your blood pressure and increase triglycerides, the level of fats in the blood.

*Diet Tips And Food Habits Men In Their 40s Should Follow To Stay Fit And Healthy*.
*1. How men can stay fit and healthy in their 40s.*
Stay healthy in your 40s, as they are the new 20s. Well, this might sound like a mere statement, but yes it is a fact. But it is also important to take care of your health as you cross the mark of 40. The most common health problems that arise post 40 are high cholesterol levels, pre -diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. And the best way to avoid these is to be watchful of what you eat and when you eat.
*2.Nutritional needs of men in their 40s.*
Men need well balanced nutrition in their 40s, especially one that focuses on strength, stamina, and an antioxidant rich diet to slow down ageing. The main areas of nutrition to focus on are heart health, reproductive health and also muscle health. Since the metabolism slows down every decade, extra care must be also taken to manage one's weight and physique well. A diet should primarily focus on inclusion of good protein, healthy fats, whole grains, adequate fiber, plenty of antioxidant rich veggies and fruit and also good fluid intake. In this, special focus can be placed on ensuring well structured meal times and balance in all meals for better health.
*3. Necessary precautions*
In addition to good nutrition, it is important to have adequate sleep, hydration, and regular physical exercise, good stress management, cutting down on caffeine and to quit smoking and drinking (or at least cutting it down drastically) Weight management can prevent many health disorders too. Focussing on regular complete health checks are important to prevent lifestyle diseases. Periodic health checks can ward off many problems and help address issues from compounding.
*4.What to eat?*
Foods to consume should largely focus on good protein, whole grains, good fats, fiber and fluid.
*5. Good protein*
Protein from plant sources, lean meat, omega-3 rich fatty fish, nuts, and low fat dairy can have a lot of benefits in this age group. Care must be taken to consume 1gram per kg body weight of protein daily and not to overdo it.
*6. Whole grains*
Foods like oats, broken wheat, millets, red rice can give sustained energy to function throughout the day. They are good for heart health due to their Vitamin B complex content and also ensure good bowel health.
*7. Good fats*
Fats in the form of avocados, olives, cold -pressed oils, nuts and seeds all can have a protective effect on men's heart health.
*8. Fiber*
Fiber has an overall protective effect on BP, cholesterol and helps in weight management. Fiber in good amounts in a day keeps you full for longer thereby preventing cravings and binges. Fiber from fruits and vegetables in addition to adding roughage to diet can also add antioxidant benefits which can help in cancer- prevention. Foods for prostate health that are beneficial are broccoli, cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower, green tea, cooked tomatoes, walnuts, berries and healthy fish rich in omega-3 etc help maintain good prostate function.
*9. Fluids*
Hydration becomes very important to maintain muscle function and good kidney function. 2.5 to 3 litres is recommended. For those bored of plain water- infused water, herbal teas, cold-pressed juices and natural thirst quenchers like lime juice and tender coconut a day will do wonders for overall health.
*10. What not to eat?*
Excessive caffeine can be avoided to prevent acidity and heartburn all common in the 40s. Also, deep fried food, packaged foods can be limited due to their fattening and artery clogging properties. And foods with high salt can be cut down to prevent BP from rising and also to protect kidneys. Lastly, cutting back on alcohol can be quite beneficial to prevent liver disorders and to reduce inflammation in the body.
This whole nutrition call also be gotten from supplements.

*The Importance Of Food Supplements*

What are food supplements and why do we need them? Food supplements are medicines we take to enhance our diets. They come in various shapes and sizes and a wide range of natural and synthetic elements.

At first glance it may seem that with all the processing and food technology our food goes through we really should not need these food supplements, as our food arrives to our tables looking so picture perfect. However when we look deeper we see a very different story.

Have you ever walked into your local grocery store and looked at the wonderful display of fruits and vegetables. The fruit is piled in beautiful pyramids and looks so good that you just cannot resist taking some home to eat.
The beautiful looking fruits we see in the stores with their shiny exteriors and inviting appearance are not what they seem. The shiny look is not the natural bloom of a healthy looking fruit it is merely wax. Why would our fruits be dipped in wax? The first reason is to preserve it in the long journey from the farm to the grocery store, and secondly to fool consumers into thinking that the fruit is better than it is by its glossy appearance.
When we dig even deeper into our piece of fruit we discover that nutrition wise it is not what it should be. From its very birth it has been subjected to artificial fertilizers and pesticides that have depleted its nutrient worth. Added to this it has been picked when it is unripe before it has had chance to produce the natural nutrients that should be present within it. Therefore the fruit we are so impressed with on the outside tells a very different story within.

What is a stomach ulcer?
Stomach ulcers, which are also known as gastric ulcers, are painful sores in the stomach lining. Stomach ulcers are a type of peptic ulcer disease. Peptic ulcers are any ulcers that affect both the stomach and small intestines.
Stomach ulcers occur when the thick layer of mucus that protects your stomach from digestive juices is reduced. This allows the digestive acids to eat away at the tissues that line the stomach, causing an ulcer.

Stomach ulcers may be easily cured, but they can become severe without proper treatment.
What causes stomach ulcers?
Stomach ulcers are almost always caused by one of the following:

an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)
long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or nagrounds.
Other common signs and symptoms of ulcers include:

dull pain in the stomach
weight loss
not wanting to eat because of pain
nausea or vomiting
bloating
feeling easily full
burping or acid reflux
heartburn, which is a burning sensation in the chest)

Asthma
Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways. It causes wheezing and can make it hard to breathe. Some triggers include exposure to an allergen or irritant, viruses, exercise, emotional stress, and other factors.

Asthma causes the inside walls of the airways, or the bronchial tubes, to become swollen and inflamed.

During an asthma attack, the airways will swell, the muscles around them will tighten, and it becomes difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs.
A person with asthma may experience:

1. tightness in the chest
2. wheezing
3. breathlessness
3.coughing
4. increased mucus production
An asthma attack occurs when the symptoms become severe. Attacks can begin suddenly and range from mild to life threatening.

Asthma can occur in many different ways and for many different reasons, but the triggers are often the same. They include airborne pollutants, viruses, pet dander, mold, and cigarette smoke.

1. Childhood Asthma
Asthma is the most common chronic condition in children. It can develop at any age, but it is slightly more common in children than in adults.
some common triggers of childhood asthma include:
respiratory infections and colds
cigarette smoke, including secondhand to***co smoke
allergens
air pollutants, including ozone and particle pollution, both indoors and outside
exposure to cold air
sudden changes in temperature
excitement
stress
exercise
2. Adult- onset asthma
Asthma can develop at any age, including during adulthood.
Some factors that affect the risk of developing asthma in adulthood include:

respiratory illness
allergies and exposure to allergens
hormonal factors
obesity
stress
smoking
3. Occupational asthma
Occupational asthma results from exposure to an allergen or irritant present in the workplace.

In the following workplaces, allergens may cause asthma in those with a sensitivity or allergy:

bakeries, flour mills, and kitchens
hospitals and other healthcare settings
pet shops, zoos, and laboratories where animals are present
farms and other agricultural settings
In the following occupations, irritants can trigger asthma symptoms:

car repairs and manufacturing
engineering and metalwork
woodwork and carpentry
electronics and assembly industries
hairdressing salons
indoor swimming pools
Those with a higher risk include people who:

smoke
have allergic rhinitis
have a history of asthma or environmental allergies.

A person’s work environment can trigger a return of childhood asthma or the start of adults - onset asthma.
