During the morning presentation on the "True meaning of Christmas", Mr. Tomiwa Akinmoladun, the Laboratory Manager, emphasized that the season is a time to share with our loved ones. He illustrated this spirit of generosity by giving gifts to some hygiene staff members, selected through a lottery. Those who picked a "Yes" were automatically qualified to receive his gifts.

We deeply appreciate Mr. Tomiwa for this wonderful act of kindness, which serves as an inspiration for all staff members to extend similar gestures of love and generosity during this festive season.

Thank you, Mr. Tomiwa, for this remarkable display of goodwill!

FIGHTING FIRE
Fire is a chemical reaction that occurs when materials rapidly oxidize to produce heat, light and
other reaction products like smoke.
For fire to occur, three essential elements must be present viz: fuel, oxygen and heat. These
three elements form the fire triangle. Understanding the nature of fire and eliminating one or
more of these elements will help in effectively fighting fire.
Fire can be classified into different types based on fuel. They include;
 Class A: Ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, clothes etc.
 Class B: They include flammable liquids like Gasoline, Oil, Paint etc.
 Class C: Electrical Equipment
 Class D: Combustibles metals like Magnesium, titanium etc.
 Class K: They comprises of cooking oils and fats.
A fire extinguisher is a portable device with quenching agents designed to combat small fires. It
is mostly cylindrical in shape and comes in different sizes. The main components include the
cylinder body which holds the extinguishing agents. The handle and lever used to carry and
operate(squeeze) the extinguisher. The hose or nozzle for directing agents onto fire. The
pressure Gauges which indicates the pressure inside the extinguisher. The pressure is absent in
Carbondioxide extinguishers. The safety pins prevent accidental discharge.
The types of fire extinguishers based on agent used are water, foam, dry powder,
carbondioxide and wet chemical extinguishers.
To effectively use the extinguisher, the pin must be pulled out, the nozzle is aimed at the base
of fire, the handle and the lever squeezed to release the extinguishing agent and then sweep
the nozzle from side to side to cover fire area. The acronym “PASS” can be used to recall the
steps involved in using the extinguisher. The pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep.
When fighting fire, always ensure you are comfortable and fit and ensure to always be closer to
the exit route.
The Muster Point is a safe area where people assemble during fire incident for the purpose of
inspection and head count.
While fire extinguisher is a safety tool, proper checks and usage is vital in effectively combating
fire.
Pleas if you have more tips on fire fighting , do leave your comment on the comment section.
