Hospitals are high-pressure environments where conflicts and misunderstandings can arise, making workplace ethics and etiquette essential for maintaining good staff-patient relationships. In a presentation by Mr. Samuel Cole, the HR Manager, he emphasized the importance of ethics and etiquette in guiding decision-making and fostering professionalism. Key factors influencing behavior were outlined under three main areas:
1. Body Language: Non-verbal cues like eye contact, personal space, posture, and facial expressions.
2. Mindset: Encouraging open-mindedness, active listening, respect, empathy, and accountability.
3. Words: Effective communication through clarity, active listening, and empathetic tones.
He also highlighted the importance of hospital and digital etiquette, including proper greetings, using appropriate titles, respecting privacy, adhering to dress codes, and responsible technology use. For conflict resolution, staff were advised to remain calm, listen, and follow proper procedures. Mr. Cole concluded by urging staff to embrace hospital etiquette.
