GENOTYPE TEST IS A MUST BEFORE THAT UNION!
I could remember some years back, I nursed a child who was discovered to be a sickle cell patient at age two...you can't even imagine the pain of the little boy.
I engaged the mother asking her if she knows her genotype of which she replied—yes!
Then the question is,
What went wrong?
She narrated the story of being a child to a health practioner who has always reminded each child of their genotype. When she was about the get married she only asked her husband to ensure his genotype test was carried out too. She never bothered about it since she told him, she was "AS".
Few years into the marriage, they had a son who suddenly was ill, so cranky and inconsolable.
At presentation at the hospital, a genotype test was done and the result stated "AS".
Everyone started asking if the father was sure of his...this broke the camel's back...😓
The genotype the man has been claiming was the one he did while about to gain admission to the higher institution...
He had a re-check at the hospital and the result stated he was "AS".
While he had the test then, the probability of error was high due to the number of students the laboratory had the test for at once. There might have been mix up.
Now, this is it,
Due to the rate of error in laboratory investigations in Nigeria, it is advisable to have your genotype checked in trusted laboratories at least twice to be sure...
The genotype test you did while about to get into the higher institution should not be the first and last time you will get the test done.
It is not a crime to have a re-check even when youre sure.
Let us all help to eradicate the 'S' in Nigeria...🇳🇬
It is achievable!
AS +AS ❌️
AS +SS ❌️
AS+SC ❌️
AS+CC ❌️
I celebrate all the sickle cell warriors.♥️
I am sending love and light to you all...May you find strength and encourage.🙏
Happy Monday!
