Dear Afromedics,

Warm greetings from the FAMSA Headquarters as we reflect on the valuable insights gained from the 39th FAMSA General Assembly and Scientific Conference.

The Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA), a partner organisation, is committed to elevating standards, promotin research, and facilitating collaboration among medical educators across the continent to enhance the relevance and impact of medical training in Africa.

In collaboration with the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), AMSA is organizing an in-person medical education conference in Lagos, Nigeria, scheduled for March 2026. The theme is “Increasing Capacity and Retention of the Health Workforce in Africa.” Also, FAMSA will be organising a side event at the conference.

Exciting news: Medical students affiliated with MSAs registered as FAMSA members are eligible for FREE registration! Students from non-registered MSAs can benefit from discounted registration fees, as detailed in the flyer.

We are delighted to announce the commissioning of a Solar-powered Research and Teaching Hub in the College of Medicine, UI, sponsored by the Ibadan Medical Special Group - UK (IMSG-UK).🥳🤩

Commissioned on the 11th of November, 2025, the state of the art centre is to serve the advancement of research work among both clinicians and students in COMUI.💫

📍It is located on the first floor of the new TETFUND building right next to the Odeku Library.

On October 15, 2025, the UIMSA Executive Council, led by the President, Folusho Olu-Adegbola, held an extensive virtual meeting with the IMSG-UK Executives, led by President Dr. Bode Williams. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration for upcoming joint initiatives.

Key discussion areas included academics, tech-ed empowerment, mental health programme, social media collaboration, and sports, among others.

We also reviewed IMSG-UK’s upcoming November events, including the commissioning of a 10 kVA Solar Power System at the COMUI Academic Hub and the 2025 IMSG Symposium, which will explore Emergency Medicine in partnership with the UCH Emergency Medicine Team. These initiatives promise to be insightful and beneficial for UIMSAites.

The engaging discussion reinforced our relationship with IMSG-UK and laid a solid foundation for future collaborations and projects.

We extend our gratitude to IMSG-UK for their continued support and look forward to a year of successful collaboration with our esteemed alumni.
