Novartis AG on Friday won U.S. approval for its experimental sickle cell disease drug, Adakveo, making it the first of several proposed new therapies designed to offer lasting relief for patients with the debilitating blood disease to get U.S. regulatory clearance.

(SCD) is the MOST common genetic blood disorder.

It affects millions of people around the world especially South Americans & AFRICANS.
has the HIGHEST burden of SCD in the world.

Over 300k children worldwide are born with SCD & over of these kids DIE before the age of 5.

A child gets SCD when he or she receives 2 Sickle cell genes (one from each parent).

People with the Genotype AS are CARRIERS of Sickle cell trait (SCT) but do not suffer any symptoms of SCD.

The only way to SCD is via genetic counselling before marriage & make sure not to marry a partner with Incompatibile Genotype.

SCD can be cured for CERTAIN patients via a BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT & it comes with serious Risk.

is a common effect of SCD but can be TREATED via blood transfusions or Erythropoietin

SickleCell warriors can a healthy & high quality life by :

- Following treatment prescribed by their doctor such as taking medication (eg : Hy***xyurea & co).

CURFEW UPDATE IN OYO STATE:PHARMACY NOW OPEN AND CLOSES 8AM TO 8PM AS BEFORE.

Oyo reviews curfew, mosques, churches to operate at 25 per cent capacity
..as govt workers resume Monday
...Pry 6, JSS III, SSS III students resume classes by June 29

The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force announced on Monday that it has relaxed the curfew imposed on the state following the advent of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.

The Task Force, which made the decision public after a two-and-a-half-hour meeting presided by its chairman, Governor Seyi Makinde, added that the curfew would now run from 10pm to 4am.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, confirmed that other decisions reached include the *resumption of classes for Primary Six, JSS3 and SS3 students from Monday, June 29* resumption of work by all category of workers at the state secretariat from June 22; opening up of mosques and churches, which are to operate at 25 per cent capacity; and the decision to limit public gathering to not more than 25 persons.

The statement indicated that the state secretariat, which was earlier shut on March 27 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and later reopened to staff on grade level 13 and above from Monday April 27, would now be open to all other staffers from Monday, June 22.

According to the statement, students in critical classes are to resume at the end of June to ensure they are well-prepared for the public examinations ahead of them.

The statement read: “The schools are to observe the COVID-19 protocols as released by the Task Force, ensure that stations for washing of hands are provided in all schools, while all students are to compulsorily wear face masks.

“Schools are to provide hand wash points with the support of their Parents/Teachers Associations (PTA).

“The resumption of critical classes at the end of June 2020, would be two clear weeks ahead of the state’s drop-dead date of July 15. By that date, it would be decided whether other categories of students will return to the classes.”

The statement further read: “Mosques and Churches are to reopen and operate at not more than 25 per cent capacity. The situation will be reviewed within the first two weeks. All worshippers are to compulsorily wear face masks.

*Night clubs are to remain shut even though the existing curfew, which used to run from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. is being aligned with that of the Federal Government, which runs from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m*

“The Task Force will not mind shutting down everywhere if evidence emerges that the COVID-19 safety protocols are being violated, or should there be an explosion in the number of cases; however, the state government will intensify enlightenment campaigns to ensure the safety of our people.”

The statement also added that the resumption order will not affect the tertiary institutions for now, as the Task Force would review their situation and determine their state of readiness.

Signed:
Taiwo Adisa,
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde

Passengers wash their hands before getting into buses 🇷🇼💕

Rwanda has tightened measures to prevent Coronavirus, including setting up cameras at Kigali International Airport and all entry points as well as placing hand washing equipment and sanitizers in public places.

Rwanda has not registered a case of New Coronavirus but as the virus continues to be detected in different African countries, Rwanda is on high alert to ensure that the virus which has so far been detected in South Africa, Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia does not reach Rwanda.

WHAT TO DO IF SUDDENLY YOU ARE UNABLE TO PASS URINE ...
Recently I met a famous allopathy doctor on account of a medical article. He is in his 70's and an ENT specialist. It was astonishing to listen to one of his experiences which he shared.
That morning one day he had a problem on waking up. He had an urge to pass urine but for some reason he was unable to do so. At an advanced age some people face such a problem some times and if they try two or three times they may succeed. He tried repeatedly but nothing happened. His continuous efforts didn’t bear any result. Then he realised there is a problem. Although he is a doctor he is no exception to such physical problems as he is also made of flesh and blood like everyone else. Now his lower abdomen became heavy and he was unable to sit or stand and was suffering from the pressure buildup. Immediately he called up a known urologist on the phone and explained his situation. The Urologist replied “I am at present in a hospital in the outskirts and I will be at a clinic in your area in one and a half hours. Will you be able to withstand it for that long?” He replied “I will try”.
At that instant he received an incoming call from another allopathy doctor, a childhood friend. With great difficulty the old doctor explained the situation to his friend.
His friend replied “Oh, your bladder is full and you are unable to pass urine. Don’t worry, do as I suggest and you will be able to overcome it”.
And he gave the instruction: “Stand up and jump vigorously … while jumping lift both your hands as though you are plucking mangoes from a tree. Do that 15 to 20 times”.
What?
With a full bladder he wants me to jump?
Though a little sceptical the old doctor tried it. What a relief to him when within 5 to 6 jumps urine started passing. He felt overjoyed and thankful to his childhood friend for solving the issue with such a simple method which otherwise would have required an admission to a hospital where they would have inserted a catheter inside the bladder, injections, anti-biotics etc etc etc resulting in a bill over thousands of Ringgit in addition to physical and mental stress for him and his near and dear ones.

Sharing this for the benefit of
others.
KINDLY SHARE WITH AS MANY
FRIENDS AND ALL WHO MAY NEED THIS VERY IMPORTANT REMEDY FOR WHAT COULD BE
AN UNBEARABLE EXPERIENCE.

A new drug proven to fight H.I.V will only be administered to men, after the drugmaker Gilead Sciences admitted to not having done any tests on women.

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a new drug, Descovy, for prevention of infection with H.I.V., only the second drug approved for this purpose.

The first, Truvada, has become a mainstay of government efforts to turn back the H.I.V. epidemic. But the F.D.A. approved Descovy for use only in men and transgender women, because its maker, Gilead Sciences, tested it only in those groups.

The video is very useful ... Someone suddenly suffered a heart attack while watching a movie ... A Singseh (Chinese TCM doctor) helped by beating the elbow pit for 2 minutes, and the patient recovered consciousness.

The elbow pit is where the 3 meridians related to the heart and lung ( 心经,心包经,和 肺经) pass through.

The patient could be dead in 4 minutes if no emergency action was taken while waiting for the arrival of the Medic.

It is always good to know some life saving tips for emergencies. 👇 👇
