IN-SIGHT; An exhibition, An outreach, A movement
Last year August was when the idea came to mind. It's interesting how big things are birthed from simple thoughts. I was rounding up from an amazing 2weeks with my mentor when I thought about this.
This year started really roughly. I lost my best paintings worth over 3million to flood, I lost my phone and my laptop all at the same time. And I really thought of giving up on art. I thank God for spiritual guidance and counsel, that was what kept me going.
Back to the talk. There are so many people in our society living with one physical disability or the other. I believe art can be an effective tool to advocate inclusion for them and support organizations that fight their course. My venturing into Art in Health was inspired by 's Global South Art in Health Fellowship which I wanted to get into last year (I still really do).
Taking a leap of faith on myself is a major lesson I have learnt this year. I sent out emails to NGOs in my country Nigeria, sharing my vision and asking for patnership. Then, said YES. That was when I started seeing my crazy idea as something that could work. Then I reached out to and they said YES. IN-SIGHT held in both Lagos and Ibadan in spaces that would have cost a lot by the generous hand of support I received.
My greatest Joy is that the message was perfectly passed accross. Most of the feedbacks from everyone that came into the gallery at both Lagos and Ibadan confirmed that the message was passed accross well. The message being empathy towards persons with physical disabilities and understanding of the limitations in the human mind as a reflection of physical disabilities, on which table, everyone is present and equal. Some of these reviews will be posted with time.
I have summarized so much in this caption of mine hoping you could learn one or two things from my story. Have I arrived yet? No, my journey only just began. IN-SIGHT has opened my mind to a lot. It was Insightful. Thank you everyone for your support and love. I enjoyed help from so many people I cannot start listing out.
