As a professional body in this great country, we cannot overemphasize our pains over the recent happenings in the country.

It is extremely shocking how a protest which started peacefully and has successfully achieved a lot could turn extremely violent in the twinkle of an eye.

While we refrain from pointing accusing fingers, we sincerely hope the leadership of the country can serve justice to the bereaved souls while also preventing a recurrence of the situation by attending to the Nation's Youths requests.

We also call on all security agencies to accept the current protest as a fight for all and endeavour to lend their voices and contribute their quota by protecting the lives they've sworn to protect.

Great kudos goes to fellow medical practitioners who have been saddled with the need to provide emergency medical services to the injured.

We grieve with the nation at large over the lives of our loved ones lost during the attack on protesters at Lekki tollgate and the nation at large.
May God give us the fortitude to bear the loss and may their noble sacrifices to the nation never be in gain.

Who we are

NAPO is a global multidisciplinary non-governmental organization aiming to improve the quality of life for persons who may benefit from prosthetic, orthotic, mobility and assistive devices.Prosthetists are professionals trained in the science and art of limb replacement using modern technologies while Orthotists are trained in the science and art of providing assistive or supportive devices to patients with musculoskeletal deformities or deficiencies. The profession has been in existence in Nigeria since 1945 during World War II when injured soldiers were brought to the now known National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos for treatment and prosthetic fitting for the amputated ones. Founding fathers of the profession associated together to forge a pathway for the profession in the country since then but they did not register the association with a government agency. This organization is saddled with the responsibility of promoting the interest of Prosthetists/Orthotists, Prosthetist/Orthotist Assistants and Technicians while also promoting the study and knowledge of the Prosthetics and Orthotics profession in Nigeria. Also,as a profession with the patient at the center stage, the association strives to protect patients against exploitation by unqualified persons while ensuring that centres delivering prosthetics and orthotics services, provide high quality standard of care to patients needing their services. The association ensures there is continuous cooperation with other health care professionals and allied health care providers on issues that will promote healthcare delivery in Nigeria. It also strives to improve training, education and research development in the field by collaborating with the School of Prosthetics and Orthotics (FECOT, Lagos) for research purposes at the moment.
