"I Saw My Life Flash Before Me"—Celeste Ntuli

South African comedian and actress Celeste Ntuli was on her way to a comedy event when her car suddenly lost control on the highway. In an instant, what began as a laughter-filled journey turned into a terrifying blur of screeching tires and shattered glass.

“I saw my life flash before me,” she later recalled. “It made me realize how fragile life really is.”

Miraculously, Celeste escaped with only minor injuries. Her quick thinking — braking steadily and avoiding oversteering — helped her regain control just before impact.

Today, she looks back on that moment as a powerful reminder to always rest before driving, wear a seatbelt, and never take road safety for granted. “We joke for a living, but safety is no joke,” Celeste says.

🚨 – “I Thought It Was Over” -Adesewa

My name is Oluwasolamipe Adesewa.

My close call story traces back to when I was in SS2 — a normal school morning that almost became my last. I was on my way to school and needed to cross the road to board a tricycle. Just as I was about to cross, a speeding car appeared out of nowhere.

Before I could even blink, my face was pressed against its windscreen. People screamed — “This girl! Move away!” — but I couldn’t move. It was like my body froze, trapped between fear and disbelief.

Then, as suddenly as it happened, the car moved, and I was free.

That moment changed everything for me. I realized how fragile life is — how one second can separate living from leaving. I thank God for His mercy and protection over me and my family. He gave me another chance to be here today — alive, strong, and grateful. 🙏

: A Lesson I Will Never Forget

Hi, I’m Orwa, and this is my story.

As an EHS and Safety Officer, I’ve spent years conducting inspections across Kenya, always promoting safe practices. Yet one incident on the road between Nakuru and Nairobi reminded me that even safety professionals are not immune to mistakes.

That day, traffic was heavy with trailers and slow-moving vehicles. I was eager to overtake and make progress. In front of me was a sleek Mercedes-Benz, and when an opening appeared, I accelerated — determined to get ahead.
But just as I began to overtake, the Mercedes suddenly slowed down. In that instant, everything changed. My heart raced as I realized I was speeding straight toward it. Instinct took over — I swerved, my tires screeching as I narrowly avoided a devastating collision. For a terrifying moment, I thought the car might roll, but somehow, I regained control. It felt like a miracle.

Bystanders rushed over in panic, their concern reflecting just how close I had come to disaster. That experience shook me to the core and left me reflecting deeply on what went wrong.
I realized two crucial things:
1️⃣ The driver ahead lacked defensive driving awareness — a consistent speed would have allowed both of us to maneuver safely.
2️⃣ I, too, was at fault — following too closely and overtaking too aggressively without a clear line of sight.

That near miss was truly a lesson I will never forget. It pushed me to enroll in a defensive driving refresher course, and since then, I’ve made it my mission to share this story during safety briefings to remind others that no overtake is worth a life.
Accidents can happen anywhere
at work, on the road, or at home.
Each close call is a reminder to stay alert and put safety first.
