At InSiGHt, we have the privilege of supporting impactful and innovative research in various spheres of health.

Orofacial cleft, commonly known as cleft lip and palate, presents significant challenges in medical care and social integration. Children born with this condition often face difficulties in speaking, eating, breathing. This is in addition to social stigmatization.

Through a photovoice approach, we engaged with parents and caregivers of people with orofacial clefts to enhance their participation in genome and genetic studies and share their experiences and perspectives using photographs and storytelling.

This approach will enable us to understand their unique challenges and document the journey of caring for persons with orofacial clefts. The outcome of this work will ultimately improve the quality of care and support they receive.

We had a very successful photovoice orofacial cleft caregiver’s exhibition event on 3rd of July 2024. We witnessed an overview of the project and had special moments where caregivers shared their story with everyone. The exhibition highlighted their diverse experiences, challenges, and joyful moments, aimed at enhancing community awareness amongst all stakeholders.

This study is under an NIH grant awarded to the dynamic team from the , Dr Butali (Principal Investigator) and Dr Adeagbo; and in collaboration with Dr Lord Gowans of , Kumasi, Ghana; and Dr Adeyemo Sunday from the .

Patients play an active role in the delivery of quality healthcare services rather than merely being passive recipients of the services. It is essential to value their preferences, needs, and voices while recognizing their participation in decision-making.
Research consistently demonstrates that patients who engage actively in their care experience improved health outcomes, including higher adherence to treatment plans and the adoption of positive lifestyle changes. Let us continue to prioritize patient involvement and foster better healthcare outcomes.

World Patient Safety Day is an annual global campaign led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about patient safety and promote actions to improve it. This year focusses on "Engaging Patients in Patient Safety" which is a big concern across all health sectors. While healthcare professionals play a critical role in ensuring patient safety, engaging patients in this endeavor can lead to even better outcomes.

When patients are actively engaged as collaborators in their healthcare, substantial improvements are observed in safety, patient contentment, and health results. Through active participation as integral members of the healthcare team, patients can play a role in enhancing the safety of their own care and that of the entire healthcare system.

Creating platforms and opportunities that empower a wide range of patients, families, and communities to express their opinions, concerns, expectations, and preferences will go a long way in achieving better health outcome.

At InSiGHt Health Consulting Ltd, we build in patients' perspective in designing our quality improvement plan and system. This enables us to guage service quality and expectation from the patients perspective to ensure we build a holistic quality improvement approach.

Note that, patient safety is not a one-day concern—it's an ongoing commitment. Let's ensure that every day is a step forward in our mission to protect and improve the lives of patients worldwide.
