WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY 2026 AT GH IKORODU
Last month, our team joined the global community to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2026 under the theme: “Yes! We Can End TB!”
To mark the day, we took TB awareness beyond the hospital walls and into the heart of the community. The celebration featured an awareness walk across the streets and markets of Ikorodu, where residents, pedestrians, and market men and women were engaged in conversations on tuberculosis prevention, early detection, and treatment.
As part of the outreach, the team visited the Mini Mechanised Abattoir, Ikorodu, educating workers at the slaughter slab and visitors on TB symptoms, transmission, and the importance of seeking timely medical care.
We also visited Ipakodo Health Center, where clients in the waiting area were educated on tuberculosis, its mode of transmission, and how to curb its spread through effective screening and adherence to treatment.
Within our hospital premises, staff and volunteers held an awareness rally across major clinics, displaying placards with strong messages such as:
“It’s Time to END TB”
“TB is Curable”
“TB is NOT a Death Sentence”
We emphasized that TB treatment typically lasts six months, TB is curable, and drug-resistant TB can develop when treatment is not completed properly. Our team also highlighted that TB screening and treatment are FREE at General Hospital Ikorodu.
Together, through awareness and action — Yes, we can end TB! 💪
