GH IKORODU CELEBRATES WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
In commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, General Hospital Ikorodu held a workshop at the Agbala Annex, bringing together pregnant women, nursing mothers, and women from all walks of life to promote the importance of breastfeeding for lifelong health and development.
This year’s theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,” underscored the need for consistent community, workplace, and healthcare support to ensure that every mother has the resources and encouragement to breastfeed successfully.
The session featured enlightening talks by healthcare professionals including nurses, dietitians, and pediatric consultants, who emphasized that:
✅ Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, followed by continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary foods for up to two years and beyond, gives every infant the best possible start in life.
✅ Breast milk is safe, clean, and packed with nutrients, meeting an infant’s full needs in the early months and continuing to provide essential nourishment throughout the second year.
✅ Early initiation of breastfeeding - within 30 minutes of birth - not only protects newborns from infections and chronic diseases but also strengthens the mother-child bond and improves breastfeeding outcomes.
