As a young Nigerian, the struggle to make ends meet can feel very overwhelming. A lot of youths found themselves stuck in a dead end job.
They wake up early in the morning to an alarm clock against their will. They get to work and get disrespected and used for 8 hours at work. At the end of the day, they have no energy to function. They have no time to enjoy with their family or friends.
Then they wonder; when will this vicious cycle end? When will it finally be over? But they do it all over for the next five days. And the weekend…. They live for the weekend. They spend their weekends on social media, watch online movies, party, drink, and do things they think will make them happy. And they still feel empty inside.
Deep down, they know there is something greater out there. Deep down, they know there is more to life than working the 9-5 cycle.
Many have given up on themselves. They will work a job for the rest of their lives. Because they don’t believe they can make their dreams come true. They will never escape their job. And they will never make enough to take care of themselves and their family.
Some who are in school hardly had enough money to support themselves in school. They try to ration every kobo that comes their way, with no sight of where the next pocket money will come in from.
But the good news is that achieving financial freedom is possible…it starts with a plan and a mindset shift. The first thing you need to do is to learn the basics of saving, investing, and budgeting. You don't need a degree to understand how to make your money work for you. Use your salary to invest and create multiple streams of income. Start small to grow rich!
Again, depending on one source of income can keep you stuck. So, develop skills that can help you earn more. For example; build your skills in Digital marketing, Programming, Coding, Data Science, Writing, Content creation, and Graphic design, just to mention a few. The most important thing here is to stay disciplined and focused on your goals.
Finally, financial freedom is not all about how much you make, but how well you manage what you have.
Try hard and stick to your budget. Avoid unnecessary debt. Remember, your future is in your hands—start saving from today, no matter how small.
Goodluck and see you at the top!
