World Food Day 2025: Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, under the leadership of Mrs. Namumma Sylvanus Giwa, joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day 2025, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.”

The celebration featured an insightful presentation by Mr. Ahmad Muhammad Musa, who spoke on “The Effect of Micronutrient Deficiency on Health Workers’ Performance Outcomes.” He emphasized that the health of caregivers directly influences the quality of care they deliver, underscoring the need for balanced diets and proper nutrition among health professionals.

The event reinforced the importance of collaboration in achieving food security and better nutrition outcomes. It reminded participants that good nutrition is not just a personal choice but a collective responsibility, one that drives better health, stronger communities, and a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, describing the milestone as a testament to the resilience, unity, and determination of the Nigerian people.

Dr. Adamu commended the unwavering commitment of the staff of FMC Jalingo and other health workers across the country who, despite numerous challenges, continue to uphold the spirit of service and sacrifice in delivering quality healthcare to Nigerians.

She further appreciated the Honourable Minister of Health for his visionary leadership in repositioning the health sector, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast dedication to advancing the well-being of all citizens and safeguarding the nation’s democratic ideals.

FMC Jalingo Partners with AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical to Enhance Healthcare Delivery

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo has formalized a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) with AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical Company, designed to strengthen drug supply, improve service delivery, and enhance overall patient care.

The Head of the Pharmacy Department, FMC Jalingo, Pharm. Bitrus I. Cheto, described the collaboration as a landmark step in advancing the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare. He noted that the system has been structured to ensure smooth electronic coordination across service points within the hospital, thereby making drugs more accessible to patients.

On his part, the Managing Director of AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical Company, Pharm. Abubakar Abdullahi, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the expectations of the partnership. He assured that effective measures have been put in place to prevent shortages and ensure steady drug availability.

The Medical Director, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, commended the initiative and expressed optimism that the collaboration will provide lasting solutions to drug availability challenges. She stressed that the ultimate goal is to deliver safe, affordable, and high-quality drugs to patients, while further strengthening FMC Jalingo’s reputation as a centre of excellence in healthcare.

According to the hospital management, the PPP aligns with Federal Government policies on public–private collaboration in the health sector. Both FMC Jalingo and AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical have clearly defined responsibilities, with strict monitoring mechanisms to guarantee transparency, accountability, and adherence to quality standards.

Beyond improving access to drugs, the partnership is expected to reduce operational costs, drive innovation, and serve as a model for other healthcare collaborations across the country. In her steadfast drive to improve healthcare delivery for the people of Taraba State, the Medical Director Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu has embarked on strategic moves to strengthen partnerships and expand opportunities for the hospital.

As part of this effort, she paid a familiarization and collaborative visit to Ginos Group and Standard Electro-Medical Equipment Company (SEMED), two leading multinational hospital equipment companies in Abuja.

During the visit, high-level discussions were held on possible areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening FMC Jalingo’s capacity, providing modern solutions to healthcare challenges, and ultimately improving service delivery.

57th birthday anniversary: FMC Jalingo felicitates with Health Minister Pate

The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Jalingo has congratulated the coordinating minister of health and social welfare Prof Mohammed Ali Pate on the occasion of his 57th birthday anniversary.

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu who made this known in a goodwill message, noted that Professor Pate has been a driving force in shaping Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

According to her, tributes coming from individuals and organizations in respect to the minister’s birthday acknowledges his tireless efforts and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the country.

Dr. Aisha said institutions like the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Federal Medical Center Nguru , and Federal Medical Center Birnin Kudu, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) among others have praised Professor Pate’s leadership, vision, and passion for transforming Nigeria’s health sector.

“Colleagues commend his role in enhancing healthcare infrastructure, addressing maternal and child health challenges, and strengthening health systems”, she added.

FMC Jalingo Nutrition Department Holds Sensitization and Send-Off for Internship Students

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, has organized a one-day sensitization program combined with a send-off ceremony for its internship students, aimed at enriching their knowledge and appreciating their contributions during their training.

The event featured a paper presentation by the Acting Head of the Department, Mrs. Nnamumma Sylvanus Giwa, on “Cereals and Their Benefits to Humanity,” where she emphasized the nutritional importance of cereals and their impact on human health.

As part of the send-off activities, an outgoing internship student, Miss Isa Hussaina from Wisely University, Oyo, presented a paper on Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) with Edema, showcasing her research and practical experience gained during her internship at FMC Jalingo.

The program was graced by notable personalities, including Dr. Faci Bamaiyi Yakubu, who represented the Acting Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Kirim, alongside Dr. Daniel Emmanuel from the Dental Unit.

In his goodwill remarks, Dr. Abubakar Kirim commended the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics for their dedication and immense contribution to the hospital’s overall mission and vision. FMC Jalingo Fumigates Jalingo Correctional Service Centre

The Federal Medical Centre Jalingo has carried out a comprehensive fumigation exercise at the Jalingo Correctional Service Centre, following complaints of bedbug and mosquito infestations within the premises.

The exercise was handled by the hospital’s Public Health Department under the leadership of its Head of Department, Mr. Mattias Zakka, who explained that the intervention was aimed at protecting the health of inmates and staff, while also preventing possible outbreaks of pest-related diseases.

According to Mr. Zakka, FMC Jalingo considered it necessary to extend this support as part of its responsibility to promote public health in the wider community.

The Controller of the Correctional Service Jerry K Moral expressed gratitude to FMC Jalingo for the timely intervention, describing it as a major relief that would significantly improve hygiene and living conditions within the centre.

The Member representing Bali/Gassol Federal constituency, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, has donated 10 hospital beds to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo. The donation was made during a commissioning and empowerment program held in Bali Local Government Area, Taraba State.

In his remarks, Hon. Jaafaru emphasized that the donation was part of his commitment to enhancing the capacity of healthcare institutions in Taraba state enabling them to better assist primary healthcare services in Bali. He reiterated the importance of equipping medical centers with essential tools to improve access to quality care.

The Medical Director of FMC Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu expressed gratitude, describing the donation as a lifeline. According to her, these medical beds will greatly support our healthcare workers in delivering comprehensive and effective services to the community.
