Hon. Commissioner for Health Inspects Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Hospital, GMCN Hospital Mile Six to Ensure Quality Healthcare Delivery

In line with the Moving Forward agenda of Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bordiya Gbansheya Buma, has conducted a supervisory visit to the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Hospital and the Global Methodist Church Nigeria Hospital, Mile Six.

The visit was undertaken to assess the quality of healthcare services, monitor ongoing medical interventions, and ensure that patients receive efficient, accessible, and standard-driven care in line with the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector.

Dr. Buma reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to improve service delivery across all public and mission health facilities, stressing that effective supervision remains key to achieving quality healthcare outcomes for the people of the state.

Governor Agbu Kefas Inspects Jalingo Hospitals to Provide Alternative Healthcare Services as Specialist Hospital Undergoes Renovation

Taraba State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, has inspected selected hospitals within the Jalingo metropolis as part of efforts to provide alternative healthcare facilities for residents following the temporary closure of the Taraba State Specialist Hospital.

The Governor visited the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Jaji Memorial Hospital and Maternity, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, Our Lady Queen of Peace Hospital, and GMCN Hospital.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Agbu Kefas said the inspection was aimed at assessing the capacity of the hospitals and the range of services they can offer to the people of Taraba State, pending the completion of the renovation of the state specialist hospital.

He tasked the medical directors of the various facilities to engage with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Buma Bodiya, to work out all necessary modalities that will ensure a coordinated and effective healthcare delivery system.

The medical directors, in their separate briefings, highlighted the strengths of their hospitals as well as the specific medical services they currently provide.

Governor Kefas also visited the Taraba State Specialist Hospital to assess the level of work carried out so far and held discussions with the Chief Medical Director of the facility.

It will be recalled that on January 9, 2026, the Taraba State Governor ordered the temporary shutdown of the specialist hospital to allow for a comprehensive upgrade of its facilities to better serve residents of the state.

National Association Of Taraba State Medical Students (NATAMS) Health Week and National Convention

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Taraba State Government, Hon. Dr. Bordiya Gbansheya Buma, attended the NATAMS public lecture and the official launch of the TAMED Magazine, where he served as the Special Guest of Honour.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner commended the leadership of the National Association of Taraba State Medical Students (NATAMS), under the leadership of Usman Sanusi Bakondi, for organizing such an enlightening and impactful public lecture. He emphasized the critical role of medical students in the development of the state’s health sector and reaffirmed that the administration of His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas, is fully committed to ensuring the retention of medical and dental graduates upon the completion of their studies.
Also speaking at the event, the Head of the Civil Service, Taraba State Government, Dr. Kara Ahmed, disclosed that arrangements are underway to ensure the prompt implementation of the bonding policy, which will enable medical students to focus and study effectively. He further announced ongoing plans to extend the bonding policy to nursing students.

Other dignitaries present at the event included the Chief Medical Director, Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Garba Danjuma, who served as a guest speaker and delivered a lecture on Lassa Fever; the Director-General, Taraba State AIDS Control Agency (TACA), Dr. Bako Ali Istifanus; the Chief Medical Director, Specialist Hospital, Dr. Alex Maiangwa; the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care, Dr. Tukura Nyigwa; the Executive Secretary, SEMA; Honourable Member, Hajjiya Batulu; the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Taraba State; and several other distinguished guests.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to promoting and strengthening healthcare delivery across Taraba State.

CHAMBA COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES VISIT HON. DR. BORDIYA GBANSHEYA BUMA WITH CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE AND CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

Representatives of the Chamba community paid a congratulatory and goodwill visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Taraba State, Hon. Dr. Bordiya Gbansheya Buma (MBBS, FWACS), to felicitate with him on his appointment and extend warm Christmas greetings.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation described the appointment as well-deserved, citing the Honourable Commissioner’s competence, professionalism, and commitment to public service. The delegation also commended the Taraba State Government for the confidence reposed in him and expressed optimism that the health sector would witness positive transformation under his leadership.

World AIDS Day Commemoration 2025

The Taraba State AIDS Control Agency (TACA) today joined global partners, health stakeholders, and community advocates to commemorate the 2025 World AIDS Day with the theme: “Overcoming Disruptions: Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response.”

The event, which held at the Crest Event Hall, Jalingo, brought together government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and key actors committed to strengthening the fight against HIV/AIDS in Taraba State.

Speaking during the commemoration, representative of the State Government, Hon. Dr Bordiya Gbansheya Buma (Commissioner For Health) reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that HIV prevention, treatment, and care services remain uninterrupted despite socio-economic challenges. He emphasized that Taraba State continues to make significant progress in reducing HIV transmission rates, expanding access to treatment, and promoting community awareness.

The World AIDS Day event highlighted the importance of resilience, innovation, and sustained funding in the collective effort to eliminate HIV as a public health threat. Stakeholders also applauded the dedication of health workers, community volunteers, and partner organizations who continue to drive HIV response programs across the state.

TACA used the occasion to appeal for stronger collaboration among communities, leaders, and development partners to ensure that no one is left behind. The Agency reiterated that consistent awareness, early testing, adherence to treatment, and tackling stigma remain central to achieving long-term success.

As the world reflects on decades of progress in the HIV response, Taraba State remains committed to strengthening systems, supporting vulnerable populations, and sustaining momentum towards an HIV-free generation.

TARABA STATE MEDICAL AND DENTAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION NATIONAL LEADERSHIP PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO TARABA STATE COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH

The national leadership of the Taraba State Medical and Dental Students Association (TSMDSA), led by President Usman Sanusi Bakondi, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Taraba State.

During the visit:

The President appreciated the Commissioner for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector and supporting medical and dental students especially the approval of the revised bond agreement now set at GL 05 (₦100,000) and GL 07 (₦130,000).

The association thanked him for making a historic visit to students in Maiduguri Teaching Hospital the first of its kind in the association’s history an act warmly welcomed by all students.

The leadership briefed him on the upcoming Health Week, featuring free drug distribution and free surgeries. The Commissioner graciously pledged financial support and confirmed his attendance as patron.

To round off the meeting, the association presented a commemorative roll-up banner marking his two-year anniversary in office. He expressed appreciation and encouraged students to study diligently and return after graduation to serve their communities.

Taraba State Health Services Management Board Unveils EMR4SHF and HRH Database

The Taraba State Health Services Management Board (HSMB) has officially introduced the Electronic Medical Record for Secondary Healthcare Facilities (EMR4SHF) and the Human Resource for Health (HRH) database, marking a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare delivery and management across the state.

The event was graced by key stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bordiya Buma; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Chufor Harmony; and the Board Chairman of HSMB, Dr. Ebenezer Apake.

Also in attendance were representatives of AHNi, UNICEF Taraba State Field Office, and the Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research (CCCRN-THRIVE), among other partners and stakeholders who have been instrumental in supporting healthcare innovations in the state.

The launch of these systems reflects the state government’s commitment to digital transformation in healthcare, improved data management, and better planning for human resources in the health sector.
