Restoring Sight, Transforming Lives 👁️🩵💚

In partnership with First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company, we are proud to deliver completely free cataract screening, treatment, surgeries, and reading glasses to communities across the Northern Senatorial Zone of Plateau State.

This life-changing outreach is restoring vision, dignity, and independence to countless grateful beneficiaries, many of whom are seeing clearly for the first time in years.

This is more than medical care; it’s a renewed chance at life. Together, we’re demonstrating that access to quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

Empowering 500 Farmers with Organic Farming Skills in Katsina

With support from and the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture, HANDS trained 500 farmers in Katsina state across five LGAs for Good Agronomic Practices and organic input production under the Strengthening Resilience for Inclusive Life in Northwest Nigeria project.

Farmers learned to make organic fertilizers and pesticides using local materials like cow dung, neem leaves, and pepper—boosting crop yields while protecting the environment. Crops of focus include sorghum, groundnut, soybean, and vegetables.

Notably, 19% of trainees were persons with disabilities, exceeding the project’s 16% inclusion target. This initiative promotes food security and sustainable agriculture across vulnerable households.

Dr. Innocent Emereuwa, Programme Director of HANDS, led a delegation of HANDS managers on an advocacy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Health, Mr Hosea Bitrus, to formally introduce the NNPC/First Exploration and Petroleum Development Northern Plateau Eye Care Project.

This impactful, six-month initiative funded under NNPC/First E&P’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment is designed to strengthen eye health systems, provide essential vision care services, and reduce the burden of preventable blindness in underserved communities across Northern Plateau.

The Permanent Secretary expressed strong enthusiasm for the project and assured the Ministry’s full support. He noted that the Plateau State Government remains open to innovative and inclusive health interventions, especially in line with its development agenda, “The Time is Now.” He commended the inclusive nature of the project, highlighting that while eye care programmes are already active in the central and southern zones of the state, this initiative brings much-needed attention and services to the northern zone, ensuring that no region is left behind.

With strong institutional backing and collaborative partnerships, the project is set to restore sight, promote equitable healthcare access, and create lasting impact for thousands across the region.

We began our World Clubfoot Day activities with a deeply impactful parent education session at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. Parents courageously shared their personal journeys, recounting the challenges they faced before treatment and the remarkable transformation in their children’s lives today.

Their testimonies were not only inspiring but also a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of early Clubfoot intervention. Moments like these reaffirm our collective commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind.

Last World Clubfoot Day, we took to the streets of Jos with one mission, to raise awareness about clubfoot and let families know that free, life-changing treatment is available.

Too many children are living with a treatable condition simply because their parents don’t know help exists. That’s why awareness matters. Early detection and timely intervention can transform a child’s future, giving them the chance to walk, run, and thrive.

Together with our partners and community champions, we’re breaking the silence around clubfoot, one conversation at a time. 💜

Clubfoot is one of the most common birth defects and a leading cause of physical disability worldwide. Yet, an estimated 85% of children born with clubfoot in low- and middle-income countries still lack access to the treatment they need to live active, healthy lives.

At HANDS (Health and Development Support Programme), we are proud to partner with to change this reality, bringing hope, mobility, and a brighter future to children affected by clubfoot in Nigeria.

MiracleFeet is on a mission to ensure every child born with clubfoot receives the treatment they deserve. Together, we are making this possible, one step at a time.

Today marks the official closeout of the CiSKuLA project, a journey defined by resilience, inclusion, and meaningful impact. With the steadfast support of CBM Global Disability Inclusion, CiSKuLA has strengthened systems, empowered individuals, and fostered sustainable change in some of the most underserved communities of Birnin Kudu LGA of Jigawa State, Nigeria.

As we reflect on this milestone, we are reminded by our Programme Manager Mr. Rinpan Ishaya, that “the true measure of progress is how the most vulnerable are uplifted, because when they rise, the entire community rises with them.”

The legacy of CiSKuLA lives on in every life touched, every barrier broken, and every community made stronger. Thank you to all partners, stakeholders, and community champions who made this vision a reality.
