For about three years, the Comprehensive and Inclusive Eye Health Project has been improving access to eye care across Jigawa State.

Through supportive supervision, strengthened health systems, and improved facilities, including standard sanitation, health centres are better equipped to serve communities.

The project is implemented by HANDS Nigeria and Supported by BMZ & CBM International in collaboration with the Jigsaw State government.

A step forward in ensuring inclusive and accessible eye care for all.

We proudly concluded the month of February with a successful 5-day Training of 25 Trainers on Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), held from February 24–28, 2026 in Katsina State, Northwestern Nigeria.

This strategic initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the resilience of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable households within host communities, by building local capacity for sustainable financial inclusion and community-led support systems.

This project is funded by BMZ through and implemented by HANDS. We sincerely acknowledge their commitment to empowering communities and driving impactful, sustainable change.

During a recent personal visit to London, our Programme Director, Dr. Innocent Emereuwa, took the opportunity to engage with key partners, including CBM Global Disability Inclusion and CBM International.

As part of these engagements, he met with representatives from the respective organisations: Mark Housden and Theresa Baird of CBM Global Disability Inclusion, as well as Julia Amanyi-Enegela of CBM International.

While time and scheduling did not permit visits to all our valued partners, these engagements provided a meaningful opportunity to strengthen collaboration, exchange insights, and reaffirm our shared commitment to improving health outcomes and transforming lives.

We remain proud of the strong relationships we continue to build with our partners, driven by a common vision to create lasting impact in the communities we serve.

Last week, we marked World Glaucoma Day by taking awareness to the streets, engaging communities through a road walk, distributing educational flyers, and amplifying the message on early detection.

The event was further strengthened by a press briefing led by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Plateau State. Together, we are raising our voices against glaucoma, because sight matters.

As we mark International Women’s Day, we reflect on the importance of creating safer spaces for women and girls, both offline and online.

Last week, HANDS Nigeria visited Canaan High School, Jos, for an engaging session with students on “Uniting to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls.”

We discussed cyberbullying, online harassment, and how young people can promote respect and responsibility in digital spaces.

A standout moment was the powerful poetry presentation by the Words Diva, Patience Agada, whose performance inspired students and reinforced the urgent need to end digital violence against women and girls.

Together, we can build a digital world where every woman and girl is safe, respected, and empowered.

Our message is simple and direct:
CLUBFOOT IS TREATABLE, AND EARLY TREATMENT LEADS TO THE BEST OUTCOMES.

By meeting people where they are and providing accurate information, we are reducing stigma, encouraging early presentation, and helping more children access timely care.

Awareness is action, and action transforms lives.

Behind every NTD is a person.
A child. A parent. A community.

This World NTDs Day, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring no one suffers from diseases that can be prevented and treated.

Neglect ends when action begins.
