Social Workers commend National Assembly over passage of Nigerian Council for Social Work (Establishment) Bill
Nigerian Social Workers under the auspices of Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW), have hailed the National Assembly over the passage of the Nigerian Council for Social Work [Establishment] Bill.
The Association in a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha and made public by the National Public Relations Officer of the Association, Musliudeen Adebayo, said that the Bill when becomes law will help to regulate social work practice in Nigeria the way it is done in other countries of the world.
Recalled that the Senate last week Tuesday, 28th of June 2022 concurrently passed the Bill into law.
Mustapha, while commending the National Assembly for a good job, explained that the Association has been clamouring for the passage of the Bill over two decades ago.
He passionately appealed to the National Assembly to transmit the Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.
Mustapha said the Bill when becomes law will be a major achievement of the 9th National Assembly and President Buhari because it will help to legalise social work practice in the country through an act of parliament.
He said again,that when assented to, the new law will recognise the establishment of the Nigerian Council for Social Work that would be controlled by the Government.
"Social Workers in Nigeria under the platform of NASoW of which i am the National President wish to salute and commend the National Assembly over the passage of Nigerian Council for Social Work Bill.
The Bill seeks to establish the Nigerian Council for Social Work that would regulate social work practice in Nigeria and the Council’s activities will be regulated by a governing council that will be appointed by the Federal Government
The council, among other things, shall promote professional practice and uphold Social Work ethics and values."
