The Warning(Episode 4)
Even though the voice kept him safe from danger, and exposed his friend
He couldn't help, but wonder…
Is this how his life would be from now?
He was having mixed feelings about the entire issue.
The next warning didn’t come gently.
It came like an urgency.
“Don’t let your mother travel tomorrow.”
Kelechi sat upright instantly.
His heart began to race.
This wasn’t about him anymore.
He grabbed his phone and called her.
She picked up on the third ring, her voice warm, familiar.
“My son.”
“Mama, please… don’t travel tomorrow.”
A soft laugh came from the other end. “What kind of sudden fear is this?”
“I’m serious. Just postpone it.”
“Everything is already arranged,” she replied calmly. “I’ll be fine.”
“No, listen to me. Please.”
He tried everything.
Logic. Emotion. Even fear.
Nothing worked.
Because from her perspective…
there was nothing to fear.
The next day, Kelechi couldn’t sit still.
Every minute felt longer than it should be
Then the call came.
An accident happened!
A highway collision involving multiple vehicles.
His chest tightened, it felt like something inside him had snapped.
At the hospital, the air smelled like medicine
Machines beeped softly.
And there she was.
Alive. But fragile.
Her eyes opened slowly when she saw him.
“How?…” she whispered weakly.
Kelechi swallowed hard.
He couldn't respond.
That night, sitting alone outside the hospital, he spoke into the silence.
“What’s the point of warning me… if I can’t change it?”
The voice responded calmly.
“Because you can’t control everything.”
Kelechi clenched his jaw.
“Then why tell me?”
It paused…
“So you learn what matters.
”
He froze.
Learn what? Loss? Pain? Helplessness?
He couldn't help but wonder…
If the voice isn’t trying to control the future… what exactly is it preparing him for?
