INFERTILITY
π Infertility is the failure of the couple to conceive diagnosed after one year of regular coitus without contraceptives.
TYPES OF INFERTILITY
A) PRIMARY INFERTILITY
πThis is the failure of a couple who has never coinceived to bear a child after one year of regular coitus.
B) SECONDARY INFERTILITY
πThis is the failure of a couple to conceive after one year of regular coitus following an abortion or any chronic diseases.
FACTORS TO CONCEIVE
FEMALES
π Cervical mucus must be acidic and not thick
π Fallopian tubes must be patent with no any obstructions
π Ovaries must be able to produce a matured ova(an egg)
π Adequate reproductive hormones (oestrogen and progesterone)
MALE
π Normal s***matozoa (quantity, morphology and motility)
π Spermatozoa must be an alkaline
πThe ge***al tracts must be patent (s***m ducts)
π P***s should be able to secrets mucus.
CAUSES OF INFERTILITY
πSperm abnormalities such as low s***m count, malformed s***ms
π Systemic conditions such as diabetes due to increase glucagon hormones that reduces the production of testosterone in males and progesterone in females
π Smoking and drinking alcohol causes the testicles to shrink and decreases s***m production.
TREATMENT
π Clomiphene citrate 50mg orally to induce ovulation in women.
π Metformin 500mg to maintains glucagon levels and testosterone and progesterone levels.
πDanazol 400mg orally In cases of uterine fibroids and endometriosis
π Oral contraceptives pills especially microlut which contains progesterone only to facilitate ovulation
πIn vitro fertilization it's a procedure in which the mature fertilized egg(embryo) is inserted into the woman's uterus.
π Donor insemination it's a procedure in which the frozen donor s***ms is inserted into the woman's uterus during the period of her ovulation.
π Surrogacy it's a procedure in which a woman becomes pregnant and give birth to a baby and give it to the couple.πΉ
