Summary of Family Planning Overview

Family planning is the practice of managing reproductive health through contraception, fertility awareness, and education. It helps individuals and couples control the number and spacing of their children, promoting maternal and child health, economic stability, and gender equality.

Key Methods of Family Planning:
1. Natural Methods: Fertility awareness, withdrawal, and lactational amenorrhea.
2. Barrier Methods: Condoms, diaphragms, and s***micides.
3. Hormonal Methods: Pills, patches, rings, and injectables.
4. Long-Acting Methods: IUDs and implants.
5. Permanent Methods: Tubal ligation (female sterilization) and vasectomy (male sterilization).

Benefits of Family Planning:
• Reduces unintended pregnancies and maternal mortality.
• Supports financial and social well-being.
• Empowers women with education and career opportunities.
• Helps control population growth and resource sustainability.

Challenges:
• Cultural and religious barriers.
• Limited access to contraceptives.
• Misinformation and lack of education.
• Gender inequality in decision-making.

Conclusion:

Family planning is essential for public health, personal well-being, and sustainable development. Increasing awareness and accessibility to contraceptive methods ensures that individuals can make informed reproductive choices, leading to healthier families and societies.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION
ONCE YOUR PREGNANCY IS COMING TO AN END

Always be sensitive

Your baby's movement should not slow down

You should feel your baby's kicks and movement

If babies movement slows down or becomes excessive, call your doctor or report immediately

Like I used to say please and please
Your pregnancy should not go beyond 42 weeks

Please have that in mind and speak to your doctor or midwife if you are a week close to 42 weeks for the best intervention and monitoring.

During labor the cervix is supposed to dilate from 1 to 10 cm.

Then you can push the baby out

This occurs with contractions

In some instances contractions are not strong enough to cause dilation and so the cervix doesn’t continue to dilate.

It may stop dilating at any number example 1,4, 7 and even at 9 cm

In other cases there is strong dilation but cervix will just not dilate

In both instances it can cause prolonged labor

Your doctor or midwife will be monitoring and if this continues for a long time, they may have to intervene

They may start with augmentation depending on where your cervical dilation has reached or what the patograph says

If it’s prolonged and it can cause fetal distress , maternal exhaustion, bleeding, or fistula , An emergency Caesarean section can be done to save your baby.

To help speed up your cervical dilation at the hospital, It’s important to keep yourself active example walking, being in an upright position and also following your doctors instructions.

In some women all this will be done but will still experience slow dilation

Cooperate with your doctor or midwife for the best results

LET'S TALK ABOUT MALE FAMILY PLANNING💯

VASECTOMY ✍🏽

🔹Vasectomy also called male sterilization is a surgical procedure. It is meant to protect against pregnancy permanently, so it’s super effective.

A vasectomy is a simple surgery done by a doctor in an office, hospital, or clinic. The small tubes in your sc***um that carry s***m are cut or blocked off, so s***m can’t leave your body and cause pregnancy. the procedure is very quick, and you can go home the same day.

It’s extremely effective at preventing pregnancy as in almost 100%.

There are two types of vasectomies: the incision method, and the no-scalpel (no-cut) method. No-cut methods lower the risk of infection and other complications, and generally take less time to heal.

Vasectomies are meant to be permanent, so they usually can’t be reversed. You should only get a vasectomy if you’re 100% positive you don’t want to be able to get someone pregnant for the rest of your life.

The term “vasectomy” comes from the name of the tubes in your sc***um that are blocked during the procedure: vas deferens.

🔹How does vasectomy work?
S***m; the microscopic cells that join up with an egg to cause pregnancy are made in your testicles. S***m leaves the testicles through two tubes called the vas deferens, and mixes with other fluids to make semen (cum). .

The s***m in your semen can cause pregnancy if it gets into a va**na.

A vasectomy blocks or cuts each vas deferens tube, keeping s***m out of your semen. S***m cells stay in your testicles and are absorbed by your body. Starting about 3 months after a vasectomy, your semen (cum)

won’t contain any s***m, so it can’t cause pregnancy. But you’ll still have the same amount of semen you did before. There just won’t be any s***m in it.

Vasectomies don’t change the way having an or**sm or ej*******ng (cu***ng) feels.

Your semen (cum) will still look, feel, and taste the same after a vasectomy — it just won’t be able to get anybody pregnant.

3 Things that can happen if you overuse the "Morning after pill" a.k.a Postinor 2

1. Expression of breastmilk (though you are not pregnant or breastfeeding): The "Morning After Pill" contains Levonorgestrel, an hormonal drug that helps to prevent pregnancy. Excessive use of such hormonal drugs can lead to hormonal imbalance. This can increase the hormone (prolactin) that triggers breast milk production and cause discharge of milk even though you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.

2. Irregular me**es: Generally, use of hormonal contraceptive affects the menstrual cycle. However, excessive use of the "Morning After Pill" can cause abnormally long or heavy me**es, bleeding not related to me**es or cause your period to seize.

3. Difficulty getting pregnant: The irregular me**es and the breast milk discharge caused by the excessive use of this drug can make it difficult for you to get pregnant when you are ready to.

NB: Postinor is an emergency contraception and shouldn't be used more than once in a menstrual cycle.
