At CFAB Eye Clinic, we hear a lot of eye-related myths that can mislead people about their vision and eye health. Let’s set the record straight on some of the most common misconceptions!
Myth 1: Sitting Too Close to the TV Will Damage Your Eyes
❌ False! While sitting too close may cause temporary eye strain or discomfort, it won’t cause permanent damage. If a child frequently sits close to the TV, it might be a sign of nearsightedness—so it’s worth getting an eye test!
Myth 2: Eating Carrots Will Give You Perfect Vision
🥕 Partly true, but not a cure-all! Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which is essential for eye health. However, they won’t drastically improve your vision or eliminate the need for glasses. A balanced diet with leafy greens, fish, and nuts is just as important!
Myth 3: Wearing Glasses Makes Your Eyes Weaker
👓 Not true! Glasses help you see better but don’t weaken your eyes. If your prescription changes, it’s due to natural factors like aging or eye conditions, not because of wearing glasses.
Myth 4: Rubbing Your Eyes is Harmless
🚫 Think again! Rubbing your eyes can spread bacteria, increase the risk of infections, and even weaken the cornea over time, leading to conditions like keratoconus. If your eyes feel itchy or dry, use artificial tears instead.
Myth 5: You Don’t Need an Eye Test if You Can See Clearly
👁 Big misconception! Many serious eye diseases, like glaucoma, don’t cause noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Regular eye exams can catch problems before they cause vision loss.
