Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency (KADHSMA)
Activities and Achievements – 2025
In 2025, the Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency (KADHSMA) recorded significant milestones in strengthening the public health supply-chain system. These achievements were delivered under the stewardship of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, and made possible through the consistent support of the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, Executive Governor of Kaduna State, and the strategic policies, oversight, and reform agenda of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health. Collectively, these efforts advance the State’s commitment to efficient service delivery and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Key Achievements
1. Commissioning and Upgrade of Pharma-Grade Warehouse Infrastructure
Under the leadership and policy direction of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, KADHSMA commissioned a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical-grade warehouse, officially inaugurated by His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani. The facility—currently the largest pharma-grade warehouse in Nigeria—was complemented by comprehensive renovation and landscaping of the central warehouse infrastructure. This strategic investment, championed by the Ministry, strengthened Good Storage Practices (GSP), enhanced security, and significantly improved the quality, safety, and uninterrupted availability of essential medicines across Kaduna State.
2. Decentralisation through Zonal Warehouses
As part of the Ministry of Health’s drive to improve equitable access to health commodities, four zonal warehouses were established in Sabon Gari, Ikara, Kafanchan, and Kachia. This intervention decentralised storage and distribution, improved responsiveness, and strengthened last-mile delivery to health facilities across all 23 Local Government Areas.
3. Strengthened Logistics and Fleet Management
In line with Ministry-approved reforms to optimise public health logistics, KADHSMA established a dedicated Fleet Management Unit. The initiative improved vehicle utilisation, maintenance planning, delivery scheduling, route optimisation, and accountability, resulting in more timely and reliable distribution of health commodities statewide.
4. Improved Governance of DRF and ISHSS
Guided by the Kaduna State Ministry of Health’s commitment to transparency and sustainability, operational guidelines for the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and the Integrated Sustainable Health Supply System (ISHSS) were reviewed and validated. These reforms strengthened governance, accountability, and long-term sustainability in the management of essential medicines.
5. Integrated Last-Mile Delivery (iLMD)
With strong policy backing from the Ministry of Health, KADHSMA successfully implemented Integrated Last-Mile Delivery (iLMD) of essential medicines and family-planning commodities. This ensured routine and timely supply to health facilities across Kaduna State and significantly improved commodity availability at service-delivery points.
6. Human Capacity Development
As part of the Ministry’s health-workforce development strategy, Agency staff obtained professional certifications including CIPS (UK) and ISCEA, strengthening procurement governance, supply-chain leadership, and institutional performance within the public health system.
7. Academic and Professional Development Support
In furtherance of the Ministry of Health’s mandate to strengthen human capital, KADHSMA provided structured training and practical support to students, interns, foreign-trained pharmacists, and participants of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP).
8. Policy and Operational Strengthening
Driven by the Ministry of Health’s reform agenda and implemented through KADHSMA, critical policy and operational documents were developed, reviewed, validated, and disseminated. These include quality-assurance guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures for integrated last-mile delivery, proxy deliveries, and funded family-planning procurement.
9. Launch of the Kaduna State Supply Chain Innovation Hub
As a flagship initiative aligned with the strategic vision of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, KADHSMA launched the Kaduna State Supply Chain Innovation Hub. The Hub serves as a centre for data-driven decision-making, digital innovation, operational research, capacity development, and cross-sector collaboration, positioning Kaduna State as a national leader in public health supply-chain innovation.
KADHSMA acknowledges the leadership, ownership, and strategic guidance of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, and appreciates the unwavering support of the Kaduna State Government under His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, in delivering sustainable improvements in the availability, quality, and accountability of essential medicines for the people of Kaduna State.
